Malayalam cinema wins big at the 67th National Film Awards
The 67th National Film Awards got announced last day. The awards were bestowed to the best of artistes and technicians from film industries across the country for their performances in the year 2019. Malayalam film industry stole the show by winning multiple awards in major categories.
Priyadarshan’s ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ bagged the award for the Best Feature Film. It is only the 12th time that a Malayalam film has won this prestigious award. The film also won awards in two other categories — Best Costume (V Sai B and Sujith Sudhakaran) and Special Effects (Sidharth Priyadarshan).
‘Kalla Nottam’ directed by Rahul Riji Nair was declared as the Best Feature Film in Malayalam. Sajin Babu’s ‘Biriyani’, that got screened at various international film festivals, received a Special Mention by the jury. Mathukutty Xavier won the award for Best Debut Director for his maiden film ‘Helen’. Ranjith Ambay bagged the award for Best Makeup for the same film.
Girish Gangadharan, whose stunning work in ‘Jallikkattu’ was unanimously praised, got the award for Best Cinematographer. Famous poet Prabha Varma was chosen as the Best Lyricist for the film ‘Kolambi’. ‘Oru Pathira Swapnam Pole’ directed by Sharan Gopal won the award for Best Film on Family Values (Non-Feature).
