Malayalam film stars pay their tributes to Philipose Mar Chrysostom
India’s oldest serving bishop, Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom passed away on Wednesday due to age-related ailments. The 104-year-old breathed his last at a private hospital in Kumbanad at around 1.15 AM. Mar Chrysostom is the former head of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church. He is well known for being an outstanding religious leader and a humanitarian who worked for the social, economic and cultural betterment of the poor. In 2018, the Indian government honoured with the Padma Bhushan for his innumerable service to the society.
Valiya Metropolitan, as he was popularly known, was close to many from the Malayalam film industry. Almost all the top celebs including Mohanlal, Mammootty Suresh Gopi, Kunchacko Boban, Prithviraj, Tovino Thomas, Unni Mukundan and Manju Warrier took to their respective social medias to pay their condolences.
Director Blessy had made a documentary titled ‘100 years of Mar Chrysostom’, based on the life and vision of the Metropolitan. It received the Guinness Award in the category of longest documentary.
