RRR’s Naatu Naatu wins Oscar for Best Original Song
The 95th Academy Awards was held amidst much fanfare in Los Angeles. Most of India woke up to the news of Naatu Naatu, the chartbuster song from SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’, winning the Best Original Song. Music director MM Keeravani and lyricist Chandrabose bagged the awards. The foot-tapping number was also performed live during the ceremony by singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava. Deepika Padukone, who is only the third Indian to attend the Oscars as a presenter, introduced the performance.
‘Naatu Naatu’ is the first song from an Indian film to win an Oscar. It must be noted that ‘Jai Ho’ from ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, for which AR Rahman won an Oscar in 2008 was a British production.
Earlier, ‘Naatu Naatu’ had also won the Best Original Song at the Golden Globes as well. RRR has been getting glorious reception all along the West with many celebrated filmmakers and actors raving about the film.
Apart from Naatu Naatu’s win, India had another proud moment at this year’s Oscars after ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ won the award for Best Documentary Short. The documentary streaming on Netflix is directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga.
