Dhanush and Mari Selvaraj Reunite for D56, Four Years After Karnan
Actor Dhanush and director Mari Selvaraj are all set to team up once again for a powerful new film, currently titled D56. The announcement came on the fourth anniversary of their acclaimed 2021 film Karnan, marking an emotional moment for both fans and the makers. Produced by Ishari Ganesh under the Vels Films International banner, this marks Mari Selvaraj’s first collaboration with the production house and his second with Dhanush — a pairing that left a deep impact with their first outing.
Though details about the storyline remain under wraps, the team has already sparked intrigue with a striking first-look poster. Featuring a sword with a skull-shaped handle and the tagline “Roots begin a Great War,” the imagery suggests another socially rooted, intense narrative that delves into identity, rebellion, and justice — much like Karnan. Mari Selvaraj’s note about the story brewing in his mind for a while has only heightened anticipation.
Meanwhile, Dhanush is busy with multiple projects, including his directorial venture Idly Kadai, which he also headlines. The film features Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Shalini Pandey, Prakash Raj, and Rajkiran in key roles. Produced by Wunderbar Films and Dawn Pictures with Red Giant Movies on board for distribution, Idly Kadai is another eagerly awaited release, showcasing Dhanush’s versatility both in front of and behind the camera.
