Anwar Rasheed confirms backing Othalanga Thuruthu big screen adaptation
We had earlier reported about Anwar Rasheed planning to make a big screen adaptation of the Malayalam web series ‘Othalanga Thuruthu’. The director has now confirmed the same. According to him, it is not exactly an adaptation of sorts, but a new version with the same set of actors, locations and sequences.
‘Othalanga Thuruthu’ first premiered in YouTube over a year back. But it was during the lockdown period that the series found a lot of fans in social medias. Though the makers have released just 6 episodes so far, it has got a massive reach among the youngsters. All the 6-episodes have garnered over 1.5 million views. The realistic treatment, overall quirkiness and the non-stop humour, that is both situational and exaggerated, worked big-time.
Ambuji, who directed the series, will be helming its feature film as well. Abin Bino, Jayesh Janardhan, and Jagadeesh Kumar, who played the lead roles in the series, are expected to be part of the film as well. When asked about what drew him to the series, Anwar Rasheed said that it has a certain freshness with unique characters and a backdrop that hasn’t been explored much in mainstream Malayalam cinema.
Works for the film is set to begin soon after the ongoing episode is wrapped up.
