Chotta Mumbai 4K Re-Release Opens with a Bang, Becomes Third Highest Rerelease Opener in Kerala
Mohanlal’s cult classic Chotta Mumbai has stormed back into theatres with its 4K remastered re-release, opening to a phenomenal response across Kerala. Despite a limited release strategy, the film has clinched the third spot among the all-time top opening day collections for re-releases in the state, following Spadikam and Manichitrathazhu. With an estimated opening day collection of ₹35–₹40 lakhs, the film has far exceeded expectations, showcasing Mohanlal’s enduring star power and the massive love for the 2007 blockbuster.
Celebrations erupted across theatres including iconic venues like Ernakulam Kavitha, Trivandrum Ariesplex, Calicut Apsara, Thrissur Jose, and Tirur Khayyam, where special shows were added due to extraordinary demand. Initially released in just 200 shows, the film has expanded to over 300+ shows on its second day, with more screens being added rapidly. Theatres reported stadium-like atmospheres in Malabar, Central, and South Kerala regions, with exceptional occupancy levels. The hype and nostalgia have turned the re-release into a festival-like event, proving yet again Mohanlal’s legacy is unmatched.
Directed by Anwar Rasheed and written by Benny P Nayarambalam, Chotta Mumbai originally starred Mohanlal, Bhavana, Jagathy Sreekumar, Indrajith, Siddique, Kalabhavan Mani, Vinayakan, and others. With music by Rahul Raj and produced by Maniyanpilla Raju, the film was a massive hit in 2007 and is now rewriting records in 2025 — reconfirming that all four of Mohanlal’s re-releases have been major successes.
