Continuing the streak of remarkable successes from 2024, Asif Ali has kickstarted 2025 on a high note with his latest release, ‘Rekhachithram’. The film, which hit theaters on January 9, has already become a blockbuster, reportedly earning four times its production cost within the first week. As per reports, ‘Rekhachithram’ has grossed approximately ₹40 crore globally, making it a roaring success.

With a budget of ₹6-8 crore, ‘Rekhachithram’ explores the rarely attempted genre of alternate history in Malayalam cinema. It also combines elements of a mystery crime drama. Directed by Jofin T. Chacko, known for his work in ‘The Priest’, the film presents surprises never before seen in Malayalam cinema. The positive word-of-mouth publicity from its first day has translated into stellar box-office performance and critical acclaim.

‘Rekhachithram’ has recorded the best box office opening of Asif Ali’s career, establishing itself as 2025’s first blockbuster. Produced under the banners of Kavya Film Company and Ann Mega Media by Venu Kunnappilly, the film also stars Anaswara Rajan as the female lead.

The film features a powerful supporting cast, including Manoj K. Jayan, Indrans, Harisree Ashokan, Bhama Arun, Siddique, Jagadish, Saikumar, Sreekanth Murali, Unni Lalu, Nishanth Sagar, Prem Prakash, Sudhi Koppa, Megha Thomas, and Zarin Shihab.

Jofin T. Chacko’s direction, Appu Prabhakar’s cinematography, and Mujeeb Majeed’s music have been particularly praised, contributing significantly to the film’s success.
