After Baahubali, Dangal enters the 1000 crore club
Baahubali 2: The Conclusion recently made history by becoming the first ever Indian movie to gross Rs 1000 crores from the box office. Now here is another entrant to the elite club. Yes, Aamir Khan’s Dangal has crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark from the worldwide box office.
Dangal was released in China on May 5 and was opened to overwhelming response from the audience there. It was released as Shuai Jiao Baba or Let’s Wrestle Father in Chinese.
Dangal, directed by Nitish Tiwari is inspired from the life of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trained his daughters to world class wrestlers. Aamir Khan essayed Mahavir Singh Phogat’s character while Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar played his daughter’s parts. It was a huge success both critically and commercially.
The movie raked in over Rs 100 crores from the first four days of it’s theatrical run in China. The movie, during it’s initial theatrical run did an overall business of 740 crores. With the massive collections in China, Dangal has successfully crossed the 1000 crore mark.
Dangal is now the second highest grossing Indian movie only after Baahubali. According to trade analysts, Dangal will continue it’s blockbuster run for the next few weeks. Aamir Khan enjoys wide popularity in China as his film PK also managed to gross over Rs 100 crore there. The actor even made an appearance in the country before the film’s release. It was also screened at the Beijing Film Festival this year.
