Dhanya Mary Varghese and her husband John Jacob arrested for cheating over 100 crores.
Malayalam film actress Dhanya Mary Varghese was arrested yesterday from Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu for financial fraud of around 130 crores.
The actress’ husband John Jacob and his brother Samuel, were also taken into custody along with her. They own the construction company Samson and Samson Builders. Her father-in-law, Jacob Samson is the chairman of the company. He was arrested last month by the Crime Branch.
According to the police the accused cheated about 80 people on the pretext of building 20 villas and 500 flats. They collected about 100 crores from the complainants in 2011 and promised to finish the works within 2 years. Another 30 crores were collected promising high interest rates.
Dhanya Marya Varghese, even though not a director in the company, had deceived clients by stating on the company website that she was a director.
Several complaints were filed against them in many police stations in Thiruvananthapuram. Many of the clients are non Keralites and NRIs. The exact amount involved in the fraud case will be clear only after their statements.
The trio were on the run for the past few months. They were arrested in Nagercoil with the help of the cyber cell officials. A look out noticed was issued by the police department to nab the accused.
The accused were produced in the court yesterday itself from where they were taken into police custody for further interrogation.
