Director Shreekumar Menon shares some location stills and tidbits about Odiyan
Mohanlal’s Odiyan is shaping up well before the project actually goes on floors by the end of this month. Director VA Shreekumar Menon and his team of technicians are currently in Varanasi for location scouting. Mohanlal, meanwhile is on a brief holiday in Bhutan and will be joining the team in Varanasi soon.
Shrikumar Menon, who is making his directorial debut with Odiyan, recently shared some location stills in his social media space. Along with the photos he has also tweeted some interesting bits about the movie. Apparently, the core plot is set in a village, Thenkurissi, in Palakkad.
The journey of Odiyan Manikyan, the character played by Mohanlal, starts from Varanasi. He was in Varanasi for 15 long years before returning back to Thenkurissi. In the movie, Mohanlal’s character goes through the age of 30 to 65 and will be seen in multiple looks. The movie happens in 3 different eras starting from the pre-electricty days in the 1950s to 2000.
National award winner Harikrishnan has written this movie which is primarily about Odividya, a black magic pratcie, and people who practice it, who are called Odiyan. There are a lot of stories and myths about Odiyans and their life in Kerala’s folklore.
Odiyan Manikyan is someone who is mastered in Odividya. He can run on four legs and jump higher than normal people. He can take any shape, can crawl and also run at high speed. Peter Hein, who choreographed the amazing stunts in Pulimurugan, has been roped in to train Mohanlal for playing this challenging character of Odiyan Manikyan.
Art director Prashanth Madhav and his team is creating the set of a fictional village in Thenkurissi. Shrikuamr Menon, Antony Perumbavoor, cameraman Shaji Kumar, stunt coordinator Peter Hein and some other crew members were recently in Palakkad for finalizing the locations.
Odiyan also stars Manju Warrier and Prakash Raj in prominent roles. Mohanlal’s own banner Aashirvad Cinemas is funding this big budget movie. Palakkad, Pollachi, Hyderabad and Varanasi have been finalized as the major locations.
