The Great Father enters 20 crore club; Mammootty thanks the audience
Megastar Mammootty’s much awaited movie The Great Father was released on March 30. The movie was a product of unprecedented hype majorly due to the Mammootty’s stylish looks and the impressive promos.
The Great Father to massive response from the audience, majorly the Mammootty fans who celebrated the star’s comeback like never before. August Cinemas who produced the movie had annouced that the movie registered a new record in the opening day figures by raking in a whopping Rs
4,31,46,345 from the opening day.
Following their announcement, there was a lot of confusion in social medias over the authenticity of these reports. Mohanlal fans had claimed that the movie’s figures were over hyped and bloated.
Finally, Mammootty himself has answered all the doubts with a post in his official Facebook page, which reads,
I want to thank each and every one of you in making the Great Father such a huge success! It’s broken the first day opening collection record, the fastest 20 crores collection to date and all of this with a relatively modest 6 crores budget and made by a first time director. This is a celebration and an eye opener to the size and power of the Malayalam audience like no other ! Here is wishing for our industry to continue growing bigger and better so we can make even better and bolder films!!
As per the post, The Great Father has grossed Rs 20 crores from the all India collections. It is now the fastest Malayalam movie to touch the 20 crore mark. Earlier, the movie had become the highest first day grosser in Kerala. The record was previously held by superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali, which had raked in Rs 4.20 crores followed by Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan with 4.05 crores.
The Great Father, written and directed by debutant Haneef Adeni, features Mammootty in the role of David Ninan. Sneha, Arya, Shaam, Baby Anikha, Mia George, Malavika Mohanan and IM Vijayan are also part of the cast.
