The Great Father and Poomaram release postponed
The cinema strike that was called for after the dispute between Exhibitiors Federation and Producers Association over profit share issue has put the entire film industry in a spot of bother. Many movies scheduled to release for the festive Christmas season had to be postponed for further dates.
Already released movies like Pulimurugan and Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan were also withdrawn from the theatres. Several rounds of talks were held between the two parties but they are yet to find an amicable solution for the issue.
Meanwhile, there are reports doing the rounds that movies like The Great Father and Poomaram has been pushed for further dates. Mammootty’s The Great Father was initially scheduled to release on January 27 while Poomaram was scheduled for February 4.
According to sources, the Christmas releases will now hit the screens in the January- February window. Subsequently, The Great Father will release only on March. Asif Ali’s Honey Bee 2 : Celebrations is also slated to release in March.
Mammootty- Ranjith team’s Puthan Panam and Mohanlal’s war movie, 1971 : Beyond Borders directed by Major Ravi are planned to release in April for the Vishu season.
Dr. Biju’s Kaadu Pookunna Neram starring Rima Kallingal and Indrajith will be the first Malayalam release in 2017. Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Bairavaa will hit the screens on January 12 followed by Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees on 25, Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil on 26 and Suriya’s Singam 3 on January 27.
Currently there are no Malayalam movies running in Kerala. Aamir Khan’s sports drama Dangal is hugely benefitted by the strike and the movie is running with packed audience in most theatres in the State.
