Our intention was not to vanquish Pulimurugan: Shaji Nadesan
Mammootty’s latest outing The Great Father continues to do good business in all the release centres. Producers of the movie August Cinema had released the collection reports of the movie. According to their reports, The Great Father had grossed Rs 4.31 crores on the opening day.
The Mammootty starrer has surpassed the records set by Rajinikanth’s Kabali and Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan to become the highest first day grosser in Kerala.
Following the reports released by August Cinema, Mohanlal fans alleged the figures to be bloated and questioned the authenticity of the reports. There were widespread allegations that the makers of The Great Father are trying to over hype the movie.
Shaji Nadesan, one of the producers in August Cinema in an exclusive chat with Onlookers Media said that they had no intention to vanquish Pulimurugan or it’s records.
He said, “As a Malayalam cinema lover I am proud of the achievements of Pulimurugan. We have all been watching Mohanlal and Mammootty’s movies from our childhood. Like others I was also excited to see Pulimurugan reaping such big success because Tamil and Hindi movies have been raking in crores from Kerala for many years now. We highlighted The Great Father surpassing Kabali and not Pulimurugan. Ours is not a movie that was made like Pulimurugan. We shot with a very small budget on a small scale. There was a gap of nearly six months before Mammookka’s last release and he hasn’t had a genuinely good movie for sometime now. All that increased the hype surrounding The Great Father. There was no intention to subdue Pulimurugan.”
The movie, directed by debutant Haneef Adeni is a revenge thriller featuring Mammootty in the lead role as David Ninan. Arya, Sneha, Baby Anikha, Mia George, Shaam and Malavika Mohanan are also part of the cast.
