I’ve always been fascinated with direction and have some storylines in my head: Dulquer Salmaan
Most actors these days have plans to direct a movie someday. Popular Malayali actors like Sidharth Bharathan, Vineeth Kumar, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Dhyan Sreenivasan (the latter two have announced their films) are all into filmmaking. Recently, we saw actors like Aju Varghese and Mythili assisting other filmmakers. Inspite of being established actors, they have an hunger for filmmaking and are interested in exploring the craft behind it.
Recently, Mollywood’s young sensation Dulquer Salmaan was asked whether he too was interested in direction. Apparently, Dulquer also has a dream to turn a director and make some quality films. He admitted that he is bad at scripting but has some stories in his head.
Dulquer is quoted saying, “As for writing, I am very bad at putting pen to paper. But I have broad storylines in my head. But before anything else, it’s direction that I want to do. I have always been fascinated with direction. But then, I didn’t want to make it look like I am running away from acting or the comparisons to my father. So, I decided to face the fear head on and became an actor.”
Dulquer is easily the most popular new-gen Malayali actor in South India. He is also broadening his wings to Bollywood this year with his debut Hindi film Karwaan. The actor has cherry picked his films and most of his films have worked well with the audience. Dulquer, a post graduate in business administration, also has plans to venture into production.
The actor is currently awaiting the release of Solo, his much awaited Tamil-Malayalam bilingual directed by Bejoy Nambiar. Both the versions are set for a simultaneous release on October 5.
