Kochi multiplex : Dangal beats Pulimurugan
Mohanlal’s last relase Pulimurugan turned into an all time blockbuster rewriting every single box office record in Kerala. The movie became the first Malayalam movie to enter the 100 crore club.
It is still running to packed theatres in many centres. Pulimurugan was screened in Kochi multiplexes for a record 35 shows on the opening day. The movie had 46 shows from all the multiplexes in Ernakulam district.
Now, Aamir Khan’s Dangal has overcome this record. His much expected sports drama Dangal was released yesterday. The movie has been getting unanimous appreciation from all the centers.
It is expected to break several box office records nationwide. Yesterday on the opening day, movie was screened 55 times in Kochi multiplexes and other theatres.
Dangal, directed by Nitesh Tiwari has been getting excellent reviews from the critics and the audience. The opening day figures have still not been officially announced, but sources inform that it is highly likely to be a new record in Indian cinema.
The movie stars Aamir Khan as Mahavir Singh Phogat, a real life wrestler who trained his two daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari in wrestling. Fathima Sana Sheikh, Sakshi Tanwar, Zaira Wasim, Sanya Malhotra and Suhani Bhatnagar have played pivotal characters in the movie.
The ongoing cinema strike that has forced all the Malayalam releases to be postponed has helped a great deal in Dangal getting such a massive opening.
Many highly anticipated movies like Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikalal Thalirkkumbol, Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal, Prithviraj’s Ezra and Jayasurya’s Fukri were scheduled to hit the screens during this vacation period before the strike was called after issues between theatre owners and the producers association.
