Mammootty-Vysakh : Pokkiri Raja team to again join hands for Raja 2
2016 should be the best year as a filmmaker for director Vysakh for scripting history with Pulimurugan. Director being the captain of the ship walked up front with his troops and knocked the doors of the elite 100 crore club, a mark that looked unreachable for a Malayalam movie. Now it looks like the director has even bigger marks to touch as he has made some stunning announcements on New Year’s day.
Vysakh’s next after Pulimurugan will be with Megastar Mammootty in the lead. The movie titled as Raja 2 will have Mammootty reprising the character Raja from the 2010 blockbuster Pokkiri Raja. The movie will also mark the teaming up of the Pulimurugan trio Vysakh-Udhayakrishna-Tomichan Mulakupadam. In fact, Pokkiri Raja was the debut movie of Vysakh which was also scripted by Udhayakrishna along with Sibi K Thomas.
According to the director, Raja 2 will be a complete mass family entertainer, that will be made according to the tastes of today’s audience. It will not be a sequel but an entirely different movie with a different story and background.

Pokkiri Raja had Mammootty playing a dhothi clad don, Raja from Madurai. Mammootty’s handlebar moustache and funny Manglish accent was a huge sensation then. Prithviraj Sukumaran played Mammootty’s younger brother, Surya while Shriya Saran played his pair. Nedumudi Venu, Siddique, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Riyas Khan, Vijayaraghavan, Bindu Panicker, Salim Kumar essayed supporting characters in the movie.
Mammootty did not have a pair in Pokkiri Raja, so we believe that the new movie Raja 2 will have a romance track along with the usual mass elements. Tomichan Mulakupadam is producing this movie under the banner Mulakupadam Films.
Mammootty already has a slew projects in his kitty. The actor is currently shooting for Puthan Panam directed by Ranjith. His next movie slated for release is the highly anticipated The Great Father followed by Ram’s bilingual Peranbu. Apart from that he has signed for movies with Shyam Dhar, Ajai Vasudev, Shafi and Sethu. Talks about a new installment in the CBI series and a movie with Nadirshah are also doing the rounds.
