Mammootty’s big budget movie Maamankam instead of Prithviraj’s Karnan!
We had recently reported about Mammootty starring in an epic historic film based on the Maamaankam. Last day, Mammootty himself announced the project officially through his social media handle. The movie titled as ‘Maamaankam’ is his biggest till date and will be directed by debutant Sajeev Pillai.
Sajeev, a former associate of the legendary Adoor Gopalakrishnan, has done extensive research works for over 12 years to script this movie. Apart from Mammootty, the movie will also have some other leading actors from industries across the country. Internationally renowned technicians will also be associated with this movie’s making. Venu Kunnampilly is producing the film under the banner of Kavya Films.
Incidentally, the same producer was set to produce Prithviraj’s epic-mythological film Karnan, based on the popular Mahabharatha character. RS Vimal, who made an impressive debut with Ennu Ninte Moideen, was said to be directing Karnan. The team worked on the movie’s pre-production for a few months in the Ramoji Rao Film City in Hyderabad. But now its been a while since anyone has heard about this much hyped project.
Karnan was conceived on a huge scale and needed a whopping budget of Rs 300 crores for its making. Talks within the industry suggest that the makers have shelved the project due to budget constraints. Karnan’s lead actor Prithviraj has also been on a signing spree committing for multiple projects. It is also conspicuous that the generally outspoken actor has refrained from mentioning about Karnan in all of his recent interviews.
Reportedly, the project has been shelved and as of now, Kavya Films will be investing on Mammootty’s Maamaankam. This upcoming project is planned on a comparatively smaller scale with a budget close to Rs 30 crores. The makers are planning to start shoot by mid 2018.
