Filmmaker Mridul Nair has confirmed that his much-anticipated project, Thattum Vellattam, starring Asif Ali, is in the final phase of scripting. The film, which has been in the works for some time, is expected to showcase the vibrant cultural heritage of North Malabar, particularly highlighting the traditional art form of Theyyam.
Originally announced in 2020, Thattum Vellattam was set to feature a stellar ensemble cast, including Asif Ali, Soubin Shahir, Saiju Kurup, Lal Jr., Balu Varghese, and Ganapathi. However, production was delayed due to the pandemic, postponing its progress.
Mridul Nair, who made his directorial debut with B. Tech in 2018, has gained recognition for his distinct storytelling approach. His recent film, Kasargold (2023), further solidified his reputation in the Malayalam film industry.
Meanwhile, Asif Ali is currently filming Mirage, helmed by Jeethu Joseph. His upcoming projects include Tiki Taka, directed by Rohit VS, and Sarkeet, directed by Thamar, which is set to hit the screens soon.
With the script nearing completion, Thattum Vellattam promises an engaging mix of tradition and storytelling, making it a project to watch out for.
