Pulimurugan’s Tamil version gets a massive release; To be released in over 300 centres
The Tamil remake of Malayalam cinema’s biggest ever blockbuster Pulimurugan is gearing up for release. The movie is all to hit screens this Friday (June 16).
Eventhough there were some initial apprehensions about the theatre count, the movie has taken everyone by surprise by getting over 300 theatres. This is reportedly one of the biggest ever release for a dubbed movie.
Earlier, the movie’s Tamil trailer had garnered excellent response from the viewers. RP Bala has written the Tamil dialogues and interestingly, Mohanlal himself has dubbed in Tamil for the movie.
The theatrical rights for Pulimurugan’s Tamil version was acquired by PK Narayanaswamy who has earlier distributed movies like Theri and Bairavaa in the regional areas. It is said that the theatrical rights was brought for a record price for a dubbed movie.
Last year, the Telugu version of Pulimurugan- Manyam Puli received phenomenal response from the Telugu audience. The movie did an overall business of over 15 crores. So, the makers naturally have pinned high expectations on the Tamil verison.
Pulimurugan has an universally appealing story about man vs wild. The lead character Murugan is a wild hunter who hunts down man eating tigers in the locality. Since the plot is an universal one, it will be easy for audience irrespective of any language to connect with the movie.
Mohanlal’s amazing performance in the fight scenes and the terrifically shot sequences involving the tigers are the USP the movie. Pulimurugan, written by Udhayakrishna and directed by Vysakh was released on October 7. The movie had a record box office run earning over Rs 150 crores. Tomichan Mulakupadam produced this big budget movie under the banner of Mulakupadam Films.
