Suriya battles all odds to get Ponmagal Vandhal a direct release on Amazon Prime!
As theatres across the country are shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic, streaming platforms are reaping big profits. With each passing day, more filmmakers are opting to release their films directly on OTT platforms. As per latest reports, Amazon Prime has snapped streaming rights for six mainstream films from various regional languages.
From the Tamil film industry, battling all the odds, Jyothika starrer ‘Ponmagal Vanthal’ has managed to get a direct release on Amazon Prime. Suriya, who is the producer film, has announced that the film will available online for legal watch from May 29.
Earlier, when reports emerged that the makers of ‘Ponmagal Vanthal’ were trying for OTT release, theatre owners in Tamil Nadu had called to boycott any film involving actor Suriya or his home production banner 2D Entertainment. However, with no news regarding when theatres will open, filmmakers are forced to find alternative ways. In the current situation, it is only wise that the makers are opting for OTT platforms to take their films to the audience.
