The South Indian states of Kerala and Karnataka have been severely hit by the floods this year. People across the country are coming forward to help those affected. Film industry personalities are also taking initiatives to raise funds and relief materials. Tamil actors Suriya and Karthi, both of whom enjoy huge popularity all over the South, have donated Rs 10 lakhs to the flood affected people of both the states.
Suriya and Karthi are well known for their charity works. They have always been in the forefront when it comes to helping those in need. Last year also, the brothers had donated an amount of Rs 25 lakhs to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. Karthi had personally visited the CM to hand over the cheque.
Torrential rains, flash floods and a series of landslides have triggered widespread destruction in Kerala and Karnataka. In Kerala alone, over 100 people have been declared dead and many are still feared missing. Rescue and rehabilitation efforts are still progressing in many parts of the state. Private and public properties worth hundreds of crores have already been lost. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has requested for donations to help better the situation of flood-affected people.
