The Complete Actor Mohanlal plans to retire soon !
Mohanlal is entering his 37th year in the film industry this year. He started his acting career as an antagonist through Fazil’s Manjil Virinja Pookkal back in 1980. Late 80s and 90s saw the actor rising from a star to a superstar. The actor who has seen all the ups and downs of the field is planning to retire from acting after sometime.
Mohanlal himself told this during Manorama’s Newsmaker of the year function. The actor said that he is planning to call it a day after two- three years. Earlier in an interview to a national daily, Mohanlal had mentioned about his future plans. He said “I might be slowing down in a couple of years. And may be later I might even call it a day. There are other things I can do like travelling, reading books etc. Those are decisions I would have to make later. I am completely fine if I don’t act. I love to take a break for at least 10 days after each movie. But most times that is not possible because of the busy schedules that often get pushed.”
The 55 year old actor is still agile and fit as ever, as we got to see his best action performance in last year’s blockbuster Pulimurugan. In the past, many superstars from other industries have also retired from the filed and concentrated in their respective interests. Telugu cinema’s biggest superstar Chiranjeevi hung his boots a few years back to concentrate more in politics. However, he is making a comeback this year through Khaidi No. 150, the official remake of Vijay’s blockbuster Kaththi. Superstar Rajinikanth also planned to retire from acting after the release of Baba in 2002, but later reversed his decision after pressure from fans.

Mohanlal’s decision to retire from movies should be given respect. After all, everything finally comes down to the actor’s call. Working continuously for 37 years might have taken a toll on his body. Two-three years from now, the inevitable process of his body slowing down will happen and he will have to resort to doing more character roles. Amitabh Bachchan has been successfully doing this for the past few years. We will have to wait and see if Mohanlal also takes a similar path in his career.
Mohanlal is currently working in the second schedule of Major Ravi’s upcoming war movie 1971 Beyond Borders. He has also signed for a big budget movie with B Unnikrishnan, where he is playing the role of an ex-cop. Pulimurugan director Vysakh has also announced his upcoming movie with Mohanlal which will be produced by his home production banner Aashirvad Cinemas. He has two other exciting projects in his kitty – Actor Prithviraj’s directorial debut Lucifer and the epic drama Randamoozham written by MT Vasudevan Nair.
