‘Thudarum’ Becomes New Industry Hit in Mollywood: Mohanlal Creates Unmatched Indian Record with 5-Decade Reign
Thudarum, starring Mohanlal and directed by Tharun Moorthy, has officially become the new Industry Hit of Malayalam cinema, dethroning 2018 to become the biggest Kerala grosser of all time. The film has amassed an incredible ₹90 crore gross from Kerala alone in just 16 days, setting a new benchmark in regional box office history. Backed by Rejaputhra Visual Media and produced by M. Renjith, the film’s total worldwide gross stands at a whopping ₹190+ crores, and it is now racing towards the elite ₹200 crore club, which only Empuraan (₹265 cr) and Manjummel Boys (₹241 cr) have achieved so far.
With Thudarum, Mohanlal has now delivered a record 11 Industry Hits, the most by any actor in Malayalam cinema. Even more impressively, he has become the first Indian actor ever to deliver Industry Hits across five consecutive decades — a feat unmatched in Indian cinema. His record list includes iconic titles like Irupatham Noottandu (1987), Chithram (1988), Kilukkam (1991), Manichitrathazhu (1993), Chandralekha, Aaaram Thamburaan (1997), Narasimham (2000), Twenty Twenty (2008), Drishyam (2013), Pulimurugan (2016), and now Thudarum (2025).
Thudarum features Shobana, Prakash Varma, and Farhaan Faasil in key roles, with music by Jakes Bejoy, cinematography by Shaji Kumar, and editing by Shafeeque VB and Nishadh Yusuf. From powerful storytelling to grand visuals and record-breaking collections, Thudarum is a true cinematic phenomenon redefining Mollywood’s box office standards.
