Unni Mukundan Turns Director with a Superhero Film; Backed by Sree Gokulam Movies
Actor Unni Mukundan is set to don the director’s hat for the very first time with a grand-scale superhero film, produced by Sree Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Sree Gokulam Movies. The screenplay is penned by acclaimed filmmaker and writer Midhun Manuel Thomas, while the story is conceptualized by Unni Mukundan himself, who will also play the lead role.
The collaboration between Sree Gokulam Movies, Unni Mukundan, and Midhun Manuel Thomas was officially announced recently. The film will be co-produced by V C Praveen and Baiju Gopalan, with Krishnamoorthy serving as the executive producer.
Sharing his excitement on social media, Unni wrote:
“The kid in me grew up believing in legends—drawn to tales of courage, sacrifice, and magic. I found my heroes not just in books, films, folklore, or tiny action figures, but also in my dreams. Growing up in the age of superheroes—often dismissed as fantasy or far-fetched—I became a relentless daydreamer. To me, these heroes embodied hope in motion. They made me feel heroic. Their stories played out in my imagination. That child never really grew up. More importantly, he never stopped dreaming. Today, he takes a quiet, proud step forward to tell a story he’s carried in his heart for years. Yes, I’m directing my first feature film. A superhero story. One that is entirely mine. A dream taking shape—built with love, wonder, and everything that once made me look up and believe that the sky isn’t the limit.”
The film is reportedly being developed on a massive budget and a grand cinematic canvas. It is set to be a high-concept fantasy superhero entertainer, with pre-production already underway. Principal photography is expected to commence next year.
The film will feature a stellar lineup of top technicians from the Indian film industry. Casting details and crew announcements are expected soon.
Unni Mukundan describes his debut directorial as a “mega mass action fantasy entertainer” crafted for children, youth, and family audiences alike. In addition to Malayalam, the film will release in all major Indian languages.
Meanwhile, Unni is also set to appear in a major Telugu film this year, continuing his strong presence across South Indian cinema.
