Varalaxmi Sarathkumar walks out of Jayaram’s Aakasha Mittayee

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who made her debut in Malayalam through Mammootty starrer Kasaba, was roped in to play the female lead in actor/director Samuthirakani’s debut directorial in Malayalam, Aakasha Mittayee. The movie starring Jayaram in the lead is the official remake of Samuthirakani’s Tamil movie Appa.

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar was roped in to play Jayaram’s wife in the movie. The actress had attended the switch on ceremony and shot for three days. But she has now opted out of the project citing differences with the movie’s producers.

The actress in her official Twitter account has tweeted,

Thnk u to Samuthirakani sir n Jayaram sir for hvng supported my decision.. can’t work wid male chauvinists n mannerless prods..#respectwomen

We hear that the outspoken actress was unhappy with the behaviour of the producers. In their defence, the producer has said that she doesn’t suit for the character in the movie. They said that they approached Varalaxmi after her looks and performance in Kasaba. But the actress has now shed down her weight which apparently doesn’t suit the character as she had to play the role of a teenager in the movie. Actress Ineya will be replacing her in the movie.

Samuthirakani’s Appa was a socially relevant movie about the importance of education and the role of parents in shaping the children’s future. Kalabhavan Shajon will be reprising Tambi Ramaiah’s role from the original.

Akasha Mittai is scripted by K Gireesh Kumar and Azhagappan will crank the camera. The movie is being produced by Maha Subair under the banner of Varnachitra Big Screen.
