The Onam race in Mollywood will get hotter and hotter with the releases coming on this Thursday and Friday. On Thursday 3 films will hit the screens and they are Double Barrel which has a multi star cast and directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, Utopiayile Rajavu which is a satirical comedy directed by veteran filmmaker Kamal and Thomas Sebastian directorial film Jamna Pyaari which has Kunchacko Boban in the lead. On Friday debutant director Basil Joseph film Kunji Ramayanam will also join the party which has Vineeth Sreenivasan in the lead. But the fight Mollywood film lovers are eagerly waiting to see is between Mohanlal and Mammootty, the Universal Star and Mega Star in our industry.
Mohanlal had come one week early with his film Loham helmed by Ranjith and now the film is having a dream run at the box office. The money register is ringing for the film and it had already broke many existing collection records as well. The mixed opinion it created had not at all affected its box office run at all. Mammootty film Utopiayile Rajavu is said to be a satirical comedy and is getting very positive vibes from the industry even before the release. Mammootty fans and many other people is very much optimistic about the success of the film.
The interesting fact is that both Loham and Utopiayile Rajavu is made like an experimental film as far as the narration is concerned. Loham’s experimental nature is the one which attracts the audience as well as generating mixed reviews. Utopiayile Rajavu is also said to be experimenting with a unique way of storytelling. It has fantasy elements mixed with satirical comedy and hopes that people will accept it with both hands.
Last year also both Mohanlal and Mammootty came with almost the same type of films as both Peruchazhi and Rajadhi Raja are films made for their fans to celebrate. Even though Prithviraj starrer Sapthamashree Thaskaraha won the Onam race last year, both Peruchazhi and Rajadhi Raja finished well giving profit to the producers. This year also Prithviraj starrer Double Barrel is there in the Onam race. But people always love to see Mohanlal and Mammootty go head to head in the box office. They want both of them to win the race because they are the most loved Big M’s of our Mollywood.
