High expectations for Mohanlal, Dulquer Salmaan, Prithviraj and Nivin Pauly
A brief period from 2012 to 2015 witnessed the fall of the big Ms and the rise of many youngsters. Mollywood started to spread wings outside Kerala riding on the back of these youngsters. It was time when people started to write off the superstars. Some even proclaimed that cinema has changed and hence the senior stars just doesn’t have anything new to bring on table.
Mohanlal
Come 2016 and things started to change. Mohanlal changed the course and became more selective. He forayed into Telugu industry through Vismayam, a critical success. He followed it up with Janatha Garage, a massive blockbuster. The movie was an hundred crore grosser and one of the biggest blockbusters in South India last year. By then Mohanlal had regained the touch and was itching to come back to Mollywood. He teamed up with Priyadarshan, another legend who was written off by the critics. Together they delivered Oppam, a 50 crore grosser.
Before the Oppam wave could settle in, Mohanlal’s highly anticipated Pulimurugan was released. The movie soon went on a record breaking spree and became the first ever Malayalam movie to enter the 100 crore club. His latest release, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol has also touched the 50 crore mark and is still running successfully in theatres. He has also signed for some highly exciting projects for the next two years. With the success of the above mentioned movies, Mohanlal has put an end to his critics and naysayers in style.

Dulquer Salmaan
Dulquer Salmaan is currently the biggest crowd puller in Mollywood after Mohanlal. Dulquer’s range went to the next level after the release of the sensational Charlie in 2015. Post Charlie, he has starred in three movies- Kali, Kammatipaadam and Jomonte Suvisheshangal. He also did a guest appearance in Ann Maria Kalipilanu. While Kali was an average grosser, Kammattipadam was a super hit movie.
The recently released, Jomonte Suvisheshangal is also on course for a superhit success. Despite being a family entertainer, Jomonte Suvisheshangal registered an opening day collections of more than 2.6 crores. The actor’s next release Comrade In America aka CIA, directed by Amal Neerad is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. He will be looking forward to stamp his authority in the Kerala box office with the upcoming releases.
Nivin Pauly
Nivin Pauly is another big name in the industry. The actor who started from a non filmy background has now reached the pinnacles of success with his hardwork and perseverance. He has been the hit maker of Mollywood for sometime now. The actor just doesn’t seem to put a foot wrong. From 2014 to 2016, he starred in eight films in which he played major roles. Apart from Ivde, all other movies were successful. That speaks volumes about the rich purple patch that he is going through.
He has a few highly anticipated movies this year also like National award winner Sidharth Siva’s Sakhavu, Geetu Mohandas’ Moothon and Shyamaprasad’s Hey Jude. He has also signed for a few Tamil projects.

Prithviraj Sukumaran
The ever busy man Prithviraj Sukumaran is another actor who is high in demand in the industry. The list of movies he has committed for just doesn’t seem to end. Everyday we get to hear about a new project that he has signed for. He is one actor who is constantly in the look for trying something novel in every movie. His latest release Ezra is a never-before-seen kind of horror thriller in Mollywood. The movie has set the cash registers ringing in the box office. The actor has a long list of movies lined up for the next two years. Apart from Mollywood, he is also making his presence felt in Kollywood and Bollywood.
All these four actors have some exciting projects in the pipeline with each of them having the potential to further enhance the standard and quality of Malayalam film industry.
