Megastar Mammootty-Ranjith to team up for mass entertainer

Megastar Mammootty is busy signing projects and the latest yo the list is a mass entertainer directed by maverick filmmaker Ranjith.

Ranjith who is known for his amazing work in scripting mass entertainers like Aaram Thamburan, Ravanaprabhu, Vallyettan and Narasimham is joining hands with Mammootty after the debacle Kadal Kadannoru Mathukutty. This new movie is apparently titled as Vamban.

Ranjith-Mammootty combination has always given some brilliant movies like Kaiyyoppu, Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha and Pranchiyettan and the Saint.

Expectations are naturally high on this project. Mammootty’s last outing in a mass entertainer was Kasaba. After a good opening the movie had to settle as an average grosser.

Ranjith’s Loham with Mohanlal was also a mediocre work. So both of them would be looking forward to deliver a quality product for the audience to enjoy.

Sources indicate that shooting is scheduled to start by November. Right now Mammootty is busy acting in The Great Father directed by debutant Haneef Adeni. Produced by Prithviraj Sukumaran under his banner August Cinemas.

The Great Father also stars Arya, Mia and Kollywood actress Sneha in other important roles.

Only a handful of Malayalam movies have entered the prestigious 50 crore club. Drishyam,Ennu Ninte Moideen, Premam, 2 Countries are the movies that have officially grossed more than 50 crores from Mollywood.

Now the latest to join the list is another Mohanlal starrer Oppam. Oppam directed by Priyadarshan was a crime thriller released during the Onam season.

The movie opened to terrific response and started to make waves at the box office. Soon Oppam started breaking collection records. Now the movie has officially crossed the 50 crore mark.

There is every possibility of Oppam beating Drishyam to end up as the biggest blockbuster ever made in Mollywood. But the stay at the top will most probably be a short one as another Mohanlal movie Pulimurugan is fast approaching.

As of now Drishyam, another Mohanlal starrer is the highest grossing Malayalam movie. So Mohanlal becomes the only actor in Mollywood to have two 50 movies in the 50 crore club.

Pulimurugan released for Pooja holidays has triggered an unprecedented rush in theaters across the state. The action drama is shattering the records and fast catching up with Oppam.

With two movies in the elite club and a third one almost sure to enter the club, Mohanlal is proving his potential and authority at the box office even at this age.

Sivakarthikeyan in demand after Remo’s success

Sivakarthikeyan’s latest release Remo even after getting mixed reviews from the critics, is continuing its good run in the box office. Remo had the third best opening in Kollywood in 2016. The movie is already declared a super hit by trade analysts.

The young star from a humble background is going from strength to strength with a hat trick of hits to his name. Kaaki Sattai and Rajini Murugan were his releases before Remo. Both the movies were commercial successes and widened the market for Sivakarthikeyan.

Remo is also a fun filled entertainer similar to his earlier releases. In this movie, he is also seen in a female nurse getup. Keerthy Suresh plays the female lead opposite Sivakarthikeyan for the second time after Rajini Murugan.

The success of Remo has further increased the popularity and his reach to audience of all sections.
He is next working with Mohan Raja where he is paired opposite lady superstar Nayanthara.

The new movie which is said to have a social message has a bigger star cast. Malayalam actor Fahad Fazil will make his debut in K Town with this movie. Sneha, RJ Balaji, Rohini and Thambi Ramaiah are also playing important roles in the movie.

Shooting for the movie is commencing on November 11th. This yet to be titled flick is a big budget movie bankrolled by RD Raja of 24 AM Studios. Anirudh will be composing music for the movie.

With the success of Remo and another project comprising such a stellar team, Sivakarthikeyan will be looking forward to continue his rich form and deliver another blockbuster.

Mohanlal is having his best season, commercially, in recent years. His last two releases Oppam and Pulimurugan are doing tremendous business in the box office.

Oppam has now officially entered the 50 crore club. This crime thriller directed by Priyadarshan is also the fastest to touch the mark.

Oppam was released during the Onam season (September 8, 2016) along with Prithviraj stattrr Oozham. Both the movies received good response but Oppam was clearly the winner.

Oppam was a different attempt from Priyadarshan-Mohanlal combination. This is the first time the celebrated duo is doing a thriller.

Apart from thrilling aspects, an endearing bond between a father figure and a little girl was also shown in the movie.

The songs were also well received and family audience were attracted. Word of mouth soon spread and audience started flooding the theatres.

Now Oppam has become the fastest movie to enter the 50 crore club. This amount only from the theatrical collections. Satellite rights and other amounts have not been officially announced by the team.

Shamna Kasim aka Poorna is now on cloud nine. Even though she is not very active in Malayalam industry, she has a handful of projects in Tollywood.

She is making a comeback in Kollywood through the movie Savarakathi produced by Mysskin. It is a very challenging role previously offered to many actresses who turned down the offer. Finally, lady luck shined on Shamna Kasim and she was offered the role.

Audio launch for the movie was recently held during which the actress became emotional and burst into tears. She recollected how she only wanted to become a dancer and not an actress.

She recounted her hard times when many of the projects were appreciated but failed in the box office. When the opportunity to play the lead in Savarakathi was offered, she was excited and happy to be part of a project with a great filmmaker like Mysskin.

Shamna Kasim was selected after six heroines, including Priyamani, had refused the opportunity to be a part of the film. It said that she is playing a hearing-impaired pregnant lady in the film.

Shamna Kasim also thanked her mother for encouraging her and being by her side in difficult periods. Her mother was in tears after watching the trailer of Savarakathi.

Savarakathi is written and produced by Mysskin. His brother G.R Adityan is directing this movie. Mysskin and director Ram play important roles in Savarakathi. Arrol Correli is handling the music department for the movie.

From last day, a report is spreading in social media that writer, director and actor Joy Mathew is now writing a movie for Complete Actor Mohanlal and it has been tentatively titled as 666.

The report also said that the film may be directed by Joy Mathew himself as well.

But, when Onlookers Media contacted Joy Mathew, he said that even though he had planned a Mohanlal movie earlier, now he is focusing on another project, which will be directed by Gireesh Damodar.

The announcement of that movie will be made in 2 month time and he is not yet decided who will play the lead in it. So, he said that as of now he is not writing a movie for Mohanlal, as he is busy with the scripting of the movie for Gireesh Damodar. The news which is spreading in social media now is not right.

Joy Mathew had written and directed a movie named Shutter in 2012 and it was a critically appreciated movie starred by Lal and Sreenivasan.

It had won recognitions in International Film Festival of Kerala in that year as well. Joy Mathew is a popular and one of the most sought after actor in Mollywood now.

He had made his acting debut through the movie Amma Ariyan directed by Late John Abraham, which released in the year 1986.

Thoppil Joppan was the Pooja release of Megastar Mammootty, which was directed by Johny Antony. Nishad Koya had written this movie, which is a family Entertainer produced by Noushad Muhammad under the banner of Grande Film Corporation.

The film is having a good run at box office attracting the family audience and had entered in its second week without losing much screens.

But now a confusion had surrounded the collection report of this movie. The producer of the movie had released a collection report, through the Facebook page of director Johny Antony and later that collection report was shared by Thoppil Joppan official Facebook page and Mammootty’s official page.

Now, Anto Joseph, who manages the production and distribution of Mammootty movies said to Manorama Online that Thoppil Joppan had collected 9.5 crores from its 7 days run from all around.

This figure does not match the figure which earlier published through the page of director Johny Antony.

Now, social media is discussing about what really is the actual figure earned by the movie as there is so many reports coming in from different responsible sources.

No one really knows which one is the official collection report among all these, as there is no clarity regarding who is actually giving the correct figure.

Anyway, the movie is moving towards a decent box office success.

Once again, a record has been registered in the name of Mohanlal in Kerala box office, as his Onam release named Oppam had registered its place officially, in the 50 crore club of Mollywood.

The film had crossed 50 crores last day from its worldwide run. From Kerala alone, the flick had earned near 37 crores from 39 days.

The gross of the film from GCC area from 10 days is 8.13 crore as well. Even though the exact figure from Rest Of India market is unavailable, it is sure to be above 3.5 crores because when we got the last update from rest of India market after 25 days, it had grossed near 3.5 crores.

The US and UK collection were above 1 crore when we got the last official update and that will also be huge when the latest correct figure comes.

When we add the collection from New Zealand, Australia and also from other European markets, the film had easily crossed 50 crore mark in its 39th day.

This is the second 50 crore movie for Mohanlal and what makes it historical is that it is his second solo movie to earn 50 crores from the worldwide run and the fastest one in Mollywood to do so as well.

Now, his Pulimurugan also moving towards 50 crore club and Pulimurugan may achieve it from its Kerala run alone.

Veeram is an epic historical drama, an adaptation of legendary poet Shakespeare’s classic Macbeth. The movie is directed by national award winning filmmaker Jayaraj. It is the fifth installment in director Jayaraj’s Navarasa series.

Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor is playing the role of historic character Chanthu Chekavar in the movie. Set in 13th century Kerala, the film shows the journey of the real life character made famous through folk literature and songs.

The film is co-produced by Chandramohan Pillai and Pradeep Rajan of Chandrakala Arts. Veeram is being made as a trilingual in Malayalam, Hindi and English. The makers are also planning to release in Tamil and Telugu languages by this year.

Veeram is said to be made on a budget of 35 crores. If the reports are to be believed then Veeram is the biggest Malayalam movie ever made n terms of budget. The film also comprises of a strong technical unit mostly from the west.

Action choreographer Allan Poppleton, who has worked on films such as Lord of the Rings and Avatar is choreographing the action sequences in the movie. Oscar and Emmy award-winning make-up artist Trefor Proud has also been roped in for Veeram. Award winning popular music director Jeff Rona is handling the music department in the movie.

Veeram is primarily shot in the iconic Ellora caves in Aurangabad. The movie will be screened in the film festivals to be held in Trivandrum and Kolkata.

Mollywood superstar Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan is continuing its terrific run in the box office. The movie has already broken many box office records.

Now the latest record to the list is, Pulimurugan has officially become the highest first week grosser in Kerala by beating Kabali with a big margin.

Rajinikanth starrer Kabali was released amidst unbelievable hype and expectations in more than 300 screens in Kerala. The movie had a good opening in the box office and raked in an amount of Rs 13.39 crores from the first week.

Now Mohanlal starrer Pulimurugan also released with humongous expectations got record breaking opening in the box office. The movie currently holds the record for highest first day grosser on Kerala.

Pulimurugan has collected an amount of Rs 25.43 crores from the first week of its release. This is now the official highest grosser for the first week comfortably beating Kabali by a big margin.

Another Mohanlal starrer Oppam released during the Onam period is the third in the list. The collections are amounted to around 12.61Cr from the first week. Kollywood biggie I starring Vikram is the fourth in the list with a gross of around 12.5 crores.

Mohanlal’s dream run continues and he is proving again why he is rated as the box office king of Mollywood.
