Soubin Shahir and Manju Warrier to team up!

Soubin Shahir is currently one of the most busiest actors in Malayalam. He has multiple promising projects in his kitty and that too with some leading filmmakers. He has committed for new films with directors Aashiq Abu, Amal Neerad and veteran Bhadran. He has also completed shooting for the Santosh Sivan directorial ‘Jack N Jill’, which also stars Kalidas Jayaram and Manju Warrier.

Apart from ‘Jack N Jill’, the duo of Soubin and Manju are teaming up for another film. The former himself revealed this in a recent interview, however he didn’t divulge other details regarding the project. Official announcement is expected to be made shortly.

Just like Soubin, Manju also has some interesting projects coming up. She is fresh from the success of her debut Tamil film ‘Asuran’. Her performance in it was widely appreciated and it is said that offers in are pouring in for her from Kollywood. In Malayalam, her next release will be ‘Prathi Poovankozhi’ directed by Rosshan Andrrews. She has also signed for a horror thriller with Sunny Wayne and her brother Madhu Warrier’s directorial debut, also starring Biju Menon.

Jayasurya’s Thrissur Pooram joins Christmas race; Release date announced

‘Thrissur Pooram’ is the latest entrant to the list of Malayalam films slated for release next month during the Christmas season. The official announcement regarding its release date was made just a while back. The Jayasurya starrer will be hitting screens on December 20. Mammootty’s much-hyped ‘Shylock’, Shane Nigam’s ‘Valiya Perunnal’, Prithviraj’s ‘Driving License’ and Dileep’s ‘My Santa’ are the other four films scheduled for release during the same time. Mohanlal’s ‘Big Brother’ are Fahadh Faasil’s ‘Trance’ were also initially part of the race but recently got postponed to early next year.

Expectations are high on ‘Thrissur Pooram’ as it is believed to be the most expensive film in Jayasurya’s career. It is directed by Rajesh Mohanan and produced by Vijay Babu’s Friday Film House. Music director Ratheesh Vega is debuting as scriptwriter with this film, which is touted to be an action-packed mass entertainer. Jayasurya plays a larger-than-life character named Pullu Giri in the film.

Dileep confirms CID Moosa 2 and Valayar Paramasivam

Dileep is an actor with immense popularity among the Malayali audience, especially the families. The period from 2000-10 saw his rise from just another actor to a superstar as he delivered multiple blockbusters back to back. ‘CID Moosa’ and ‘Runway’ were two of the star’s biggest hits during this period and big news is that both these films are getting their sequels. Dileep himself confirmed this in an exclusive interview with us.

Interestingly, both ‘CID Moosa’ and ‘Runway’ were scripted by Udhayakrishna and Sibi K Thomas. The writer duo have now parted ways with only Udhayakrishna continuing to be active in films. It is learnt that he has already begun the scripting process and an official announcement is eagerly awaited.

‘CID Moosa’ directed by Johny Antony got released in 2003. The film enjoys a cult status among the slapstick comedy lovers for its evergreen humour that works well even after all these years.

‘Runway’, on the other hand is a mass entertainer directed by Joshiy. The lead character Valayar Paramasivam is one of the very few mass roles that Dileep has done in his career. Joshiy himself will be directing the second part, which is likely to be a spin-off on Paramasivam’s character.

Pennum Cherukkanum: Aashiq Abu’s next starts rolling

We were among the first to report about directors Aashiq Abu, Venu, Rajeev Ravi and Jay R Krishnan teaming up for an anthology film. So far only Jay’s film has been completed. Last day, shoot for Aashiq Abu’s film commenced in Thodupuzha. Unni R has scripted the film which has been titled as ‘Pennum Cherukkanum’. Shyju Khalid is handling the cinematography and it is produced by PK Prime. Details regarding the cast members are not yet known.

All the four films in this anthology will have women as protagonists and that is the common theme. Jay K, who previously made the horror-thriller ‘Ezra’ fame, did his segment with Samyuktha Menon and Joju George in the lead. Scripted by Santhosh Echikanam, the film is set in the 50s. In a recent interview with us, Samyuktha had revealed that she shot for the movie for around 15 days and it was a strenuous schedule in Palakkad.

Details regarding the other two films films to be helmed by Rajeev Ravi and Venu are expected to be out soon.

The first look poster of Mammootty’s ‘Shylock’ has just been released online. The film next directed by Ajai Vasudev is slated to hit screens next month during the Christmas season. Scripted by Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed, the film is touted to be a complete mass entertainer.

‘Shylock’ has been planned as a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual. The Tamil version has been titled as ‘Kuberan’ and its first look poster has already been released. The film has Mammootty playing a financier’s role. It is said to be a grey shaded character and the first look features him in a stylish mass avatar.

Veteran Tamil actor Raj Kiran is making his Malayalam debut with ‘Shylock’. Interestingly, he has also penned the dialogues for the film’s Tamil version. Meena, Bibin George, Baiju Santhosh, Siddique, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Arthana Binu, Arjun Nandakumar, Hareesh Kanaran and many others are also part of the cast.

Joby George of Goodwill Entertainment is producing the film.

Lijo Jose Pellissery first grabbed nationwide attention with his film ‘Angamaly Diaries, that got released in 2016. The film was a huge success and made people take notice of this maverick filmmaker from South. Lijo followed it up with ‘Ee Maa Yau’, another film that got widespread acclaim. It won him the Silver Peacock for the best director at last year’s International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

This year, Lijo once again weaved magic with ‘Jallikattu’. The film premiered at Toronto International Film Festival and received phenomenal response from both the foreign and Indian critics. It had its released in theatres on October 4 and has done good business at the box office.

Anoop Menon’s directorial debut ‘King Fish’ is gearing up for release. First single from the film has just been released online via the social media handles of superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty. The track titled ‘En Raamazhayil’ is a romantic song featuring the lead pair, Anoop Menon and Divya Pillai. Vijay Yesudas has sung the track and it is composed by Ratheesh Vega. Anoop Menon himself has penned the lyrics.

‘King Fish’ originally supposed to be directed by VK Prakash but he had to opt out due to date issues. Scripted by Anoop Menon, thd film is said to be a rom-com dram that revolves around Bhaskara Varma, who is a member of a royal family, and his uncle. Anoop Menon plays Bhaskara Varma’s role while director Ranjith essays the role of his maternal uncle Neelakanda Varma. Niranjana Anoop, Nandu Durga Krishna, director Lal Jose, Dhanesh Anand, Aaryan Krishnan Menon and Nirmal Palazhi are also part of the cast.

On the technical front, still photographer Mahadevan Thampi is making his debut as a full fledged cinematographer. Ratheesh Vega is handling the music department. Amjith S Koya is producing the film under the banner of Texas Film Factory.

Suraj Venjaramoodu and Venkitesh to play the leads in Higuita

Suraj Venjaramoodu and youngster Venkitesh are coming together for a new film titled Higuita. The project was announced last day by releasing the title poster through the social media handles of top stars. Prithviraj Sukumaran, Dulquer Salmaan, Asif Ali, Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Indrajith Sukumaran, Soubin Shahir and Sunny Wayne shared the poster.

‘Higuita’ is written and directed by debutant Hemanth G Nair. Bobby Tharian and Sajith Amman are jointly producing the movie under the banner of 2nd Half Production. Suraj Venjaramoodu has been very selective of late as he is taking up only those films that offer him scope for performance. So we can expect ‘Higuita’ also to be one such film.

Along with Suraj, the film also has Venkitesh in the lead role. Venkitesh first got noted during his stint with the reality show ‘Nayika Nayakan’. He is also playing one of the leads in the upcoming Vidhu Vincent directorial ‘Stand Up’.

Riding on a string of hits and powerful performances, Soubin Shahir has established himself as a bankable actor who can shoulder films on his own. With a handful of projects in his kitty, he is currently one of the most busiest actors in Malayalam industry. Despite that he still has his filmmkaing plans intact. After the success of his directorial debut ‘Parava’, there were talks about Soubin planning a film with Mammootty. But it has been two years since then and there have been no updates it.

In a recent interview with The Cue, Soubin opened up about the project. The film was initially titled as ‘Pani Paali’ but has now been changed to ‘Cherukadha’. Soubin calls it is his dream project. According to him, it has a very interesting subject that involves complex mind games and demands a different making style. It belongs to a genre that’s been attempted very rarely in Malayalam.

Since ‘Cherukadha’ is a project very close to heart, Soubin wanted to make a bigger film before that to prove himself as a director. That’s how he decided to make his debut with ‘Parava’. When Soubin intially told Mammootty about ‘Cherukadha’, the star was impressed by it and agreed to do it immediately. But it got delayed to both their proper commitments. Soubin still made it clear that the project will definitely happen. He firmly believes that it will be very comfortable working with Mammootty, as he has known the star from a very young age.

Sunny Wayne and Manju Warrier team up for a horror thriller!

Recently actor Sunny Wayne had shared a photo with Manju Warrier informing that they both will be acting together soon. Though an official announcement is yet to made certain reports suggest that they are teaming up for a horror thriller. It will be directed by debutants Raneejt Kamala Sankar and Salil V. Anil Kumar and Abhaya Kumar are scripting the film, which is yet to be titled.

All four of them – Raneejt Kamala Sankar, Salil V, Anil Kumar and Abhaya Kumar were associates of director Ranjit Sankar. The writer duo of Anil Kumar and Abhaya Kumar had earlier joined Ranjith Sankar in penning the screenplay for ‘Punyalan Agarbathis’.

Likewise, Raneejt Kamala Sankar and Salil V had jointly scripted the Asif Ali starrer ‘Kohinoor’. They are also credited for the additional screenplay of Jayasurya’s upcoming film ‘Anveshnam’.

The Sunny Wayne-Manju Warrier starrer is expected to go on floors by December mid. More details are expected to be revealed during the formal announcement.
