Edakkad Battalion 06 all set to hit screens tomorrow; Here’s the theatre list

‘Edakkad Battalion 06’ is all set for release tomorrow (October 18, Friday). The film had been censored with an U/A certificate and it will be releasing in a good number of screens across Kerala..Shrikant Bhasi, Thomas Joseph Pattathanam and Jayant Mammen are jointly producing the film under the banner of Ruby Films.

‘Edakkad Battalion 06’ has Tovino Thomas playing the lead role of an army officer. Samyuktha Menon is paired with him in it. Debutant Swapnesh K Nair is directing the film and it is scripted by actor-writer P Balachandran. Cinematographer Sinu Sidharth, music director Kailas Menon and editor Samjith Mohammed form the technical core team.

As we already know, Kamal Haasan is reuniting with director Shankar for ‘Indian 2’, the sequel to their own classic hit that got released in 1996. The sequel will be see Kamal Haasan returning as the freedom-turned-vigilante Senapathi. Apparently, he will be appearing as a 90-year-old and the star is putting in the best of his efforts to look and perform convincingly as a nonagenarian.

Famous action director Peter Hein is choreographing the stunts in ‘Indian 2’. In a recent interview, Hein is quoted saying that it was a big challenge for him to choreograph stunts for a 90-year-old. But being the perfectionist that Kamal is, he performs exactly like how an old man will fight. Peter Hein is amazed by the authenticity that Kamal brings to the table.

‘Indian 2’ originally went on floors in January only to be shelved shortly. Shoot got resumed later in August. Along with Kamal Haasan, ‘Indian 2’ reportedly stars Vidyut Jammwal, Kajal Agarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Aishwarya Rajesh, Vivek, RJ Balaji, Vennela Kishore, Bobby Simha, Delhi Ganesh and Nedumudi Venu.

Shankar has written the movie’s screenplay and dialogues are penned by Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairmuthu and Lakshmi Saravanakumar. Composer Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographer Rathnavelu, editor Sreekar Prasad and production designer Muthuraj form the core technical crew. Lyca Productions is producing the film and it is reported that they are investing a lavish budget of over Rs 200 crores.

Moothon set to have its Indian premiere at Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival

As announced earlier, ‘Moothon’ will be premiering in India at the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. The Nivin Pauly starrer will be the opening film at the festival. It will be screened tomorrow (October 18, Friday) at PVR ICON in Infinity Mall, Versova – Mumbai. The movie’s cast and crew is expected to attend the premiere.

‘Moothon’ directed by Geetu Mohandas recently had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film received great response at TIFF, which naturally has enhanced the expectations. ‘Moothon’ has its story penned by Geetu and Anurag Kashyap joined her in writing the Hindi dialogues.

As per the makers, ‘Moothon’ presents an unsparing yet inspiring vision of Mumbai through the story of two small-town siblings, each with their own reason for escaping to the big city, in this urgent drama pondering gender, sexuality, violence, and tolerance. While Nivin Pauly plays the lead role, Rosshan Mathew, Melissa Raju Thomas, Shashank Arora, Sobhita Dhulipala, Dileesh Pothan will be seen essaying supporting roles.

Promising young actor Shane Nigam is in the news once again, but not for a good reason this time. The youngster has filed a complaint against Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA) against Joby George of Goodwill Entertainments alleging that the producer has verbally abused him in addition to threatening. In the formal complaint written to AMMA, Shane has clearly mentioned the circumstances that lead to such a dire situation.

Shane is currently acting simultaneously in two films – ‘Veyil’ produced by Joby George and Varnachithra’s ‘Qurbaani’. The actor has already completed a 16-day schedule of ‘Veyil’ with one look and was set to continue his work on the film in a month. He simultaneously started working on ‘Qurbaani’ for which his character demanded a haircut.

Joby George was miffed by this as he claims that the continuity of his film will be lost and that Shane got a haircut on purpose to delay his film. He then allegedly sent threatening messages to Shane. Few audio clips and voice recordings from the conversations between Joby George, Shane Nigam and Maha Subair of Varnachithra Films have leaked online and are spreading virally in social medias. In the clips, Joby George can be heard abusing and threatening both Shane and Subair.

Meanwhile, Joby George has written a note on his Facebook page that he was down with fever for the past one week and dismissed all the allegations made against him as fake.

After the startling announcement about cricketer Irfan Pathan starring in Vikram’s new film, the next revelation from the team has come. Former Miss Supranational, Srinidhi Shetty has been brought on board to play an important role. The actress is well known for playing the female lead in the Kannada blockbuster ‘KGF’. She is also part of the Yash starrer’s second chapter.

Tentatively titled as ‘Chiyaan Vikram 58’, this upcoming biggie is directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu, who previously helmed ‘Demonte Colony’ and ‘Imaikka Nodigal’, both of which were hits. Though an official word regarding the genre is not yet made, it is said to be an action thriller made on a big canvas. There is a buzz going around about Vikram sporting 25 different looks in the film, but the makers have not confirmed this. Priya Bhavani Shankar is also in talks to play a major role.

7 Screen Studio is producing the film, which will have music composed by maestro AR Rahman. More details are expected to be announced in the coming days.

Prithviraj is the biggest Shaji Kailas fan I’ve ever seen: ‘Kaduva’ scriptwriter Jinu Abraham

Prithviraj Sukumaran is celebrating his birthday today and as a special treat for his fans, a huge announcement was made about his new project. He is teaming up with veteran Shaji Kailas for a mass entertainer titled ‘Kaduva’. The actor’s own banner Prithviraj Productions is producing the film jointly with Magic Frames.

‘Kaduva’, as per the makers, is inspired from a real life story. It is scripted by Jinu Abraham, who has earlier penned ‘Masters’ and ‘London Bridge’ and also directed ‘Adam Joan’, all three of which also had Prithviraj in the lead. ‘Kaduva’ marks his his fourth time collaboration with the star.

According to Jinu, ‘Kaduva’ is a mass action flick set in the 90s. After completing the script, it was Prithviraj who suggested that this film can only be directed by someone like Shaji Kailas. Jinu declares Prithviraj as the biggest Shaji Kailas fan he has ever seen. The director is synonymous with the word mass as he has helmed several celebrated blockbusters like ‘Commissoner’, ‘The King’, ‘Narasimham’ etc.

So when Prithviraj and Jinu approached Shaji Kailas with the project the director was also waiting for the right script. He was impressed with the script of ‘Kaduva’ and that’s how the project materialized. We learn that is a big project that will have another popular star from South Indian cinema in an important role.

On the technical front, the makers have signed cinematographer Ravi K Chandran, art director Mohandas and editor Shameer Muhammed. The film also marks the entry of popular South Indian composer S Thaman to Malayalam film industry. If things go as per plans, shoot will be commencing by March, next year.

Suriya’s ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is one biggie in the making that’s eagerly awaited by many, including both fans and cine lovers. The film is being directed by Sudha Kongara of ‘Irudhi Suttru’ fame. Shoot has already been completed and post-production works are progressing at a brisk pace as the makers are eyeing a Pongal release, in January next year.

Recently, music director GV Prakash took to his social media handle to share that singer Harish Sivaramakrishnan of the popular rock band ‘Agam’ has rendered a track in the film. According to the composer, it is a love rock number that has been beautifully shot by director Sudha. GV’s tweet reads,

GV Prakash has pinned high hopes on ‘Sottru Pottru’. He started composing for the movie nearly a year back. Earlier, he had collaborated with another Kerala based popular indie rock band ‘Thaikkudam Bridge’ for a song in the movie. Arunraja Kamaraja, who has written lyrics chartbuster songs in ‘Kabali’, ‘Theri’ and ‘Mersal’, penned that track.

‘Soorarai Pottru scripted jointly by Shalini Usha Nair and Sudha Kongara is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan, who is also a retired captain of the Indian army. Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali plays the female lead. Paresh Rawal, Jackie Shroff and Mohan Babu will also be seen in prominent roles. The film has cinematography by Niketh Bommireddy and stunts handled by Hollywood action choreographer Greg Powell.

Indrajith confirms teaming up with Prithviraj for a new film next year!

Indrajith is currently in the midst of a purple patch. He has some highly promising films lined up. He is part of Rajeev Ravi’s multi-starrer ‘Thuramukham’, ‘Kiran Prabhakaran’s ‘Thakkol’, Bibin Paul Samuel’s sports film ‘Ahaa’, ‘Lucifer’ editor Samjith Muhammed’s maiden directorial ‘Thalanarizha’, Zakariya’s ‘Halal Love Story’ and the biggest of them all, ‘Empuraan’. The actor’s maiden web series, titled ‘Queen’, directed by Gautham Menon is getting ready for release. In the series based on the life of late actress-turned-politician J Jayalalithaa, Indrajith essays the part of MGR.

Next year, Indrajith is set to act with his brother Prithviraj in a new film. The former himself revealed this in a recent interview. As per our sources within the industry, debutant Irshad Parari will be directing the movie. He has also scripted it. The film’s official announcement is expected to be made very shortly. Irshad is the brother of Muhsin Parari, who was the director of ‘KL 10-Path’, and co-scenarist of ‘Sudani From Nigeria’ and ‘Virus’. It is also worth a mention that Irshad was an assistant director in ‘Lucifer’.

Prithviraj and Indrajith last worked together in ‘Lucifer’ but they did not have any combination scenes. They last shared screen space in ‘Tiyaan’, in which they both played equally prominent roles.
