Vijay’s Bigil censored with U/A certificate

As the release date is closing in, Vijay’s ‘Bigil’ went to the censors last day. The CBFC has awarded the film an U/A certificate. The film has a run time of 2 hours 59 minutes (178.59), which is quite long for a mass entertainer. Now that the censoring is done, everyone is eager to hear from the makers about the release date. There is a confusion regarding the same as the festival day Diwali (October 27) falls on a Sunday.

Meanwhile, the trailer of ‘Bigil’ continues to shatter records. After notching up 29 million views and 2 million likes on YouTube, it has become the first from South Indian cinema to achieve this feat. Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero is the only other Indian film to have 2 million likes. ‘Bigil’ has become the fastest to cross the mark. After the trailer release, hype around the film has gone to extremely high levels.

Vijay plays a dual role in ‘Bigil’. The star essays the roles of a gangster father and a football enthusiast son, who later becomes a coach. There are also talks about a third character but the makers are yet to confirm this. ‘Mersal’ fame GK Vishnu is the cinematographer, Ruben is the editor and AR Rahman composing music for the film.

In Kerala, ‘Bigil’ will be released jointly in a good number of screens by Prithviraj Productions and Listin Stephen’s Magic Frames

Tovino Thomas to play Chacko’s character in Kurup?

‘Kurup’ is one of the biggest Malayalam films in the making currently. Srinath Rajendran is directing the film which is based on the life of Kerala’s infamous criminal, Sukumara Kurup. While Dulquer Salmaan essays the titular role, the cast also includes other big names like Indrajith Sukumaran, Sunny Wayne, Sobhita Dhulipala and Shine Tom Chacko. Latest buzz is that Tovino Thomas is also playing an important role in the film. In a recent interview with us, when asked about the same, the actor hinted that he is indeed a part of the film but quickly added that let’s wait for the official announcement.

Sukumara Kurup is one of the most wanted criminals in the judicial history of Kerala. He is accused of murdering Chacko, a film representative, in the year 1984. Chacko was strangled to death and his body was burnt inside a car. Kurup allegedly committed the crime to fake his own death and claim an insurance amount of Rs 8 lakhs by killing Chacko who bore a resemblance with him. Kurup is supposed to have fled abroad after the incident and has been absconding for over thirty years now. Two of his co-accused, driver Ponnappan and brother-in-law Bhaskar Pillai, were sentenced to life-term imprisonment.

In the film, Dulquer plays Sukumara Kurup’s part and Indrajith essays the investigating officer’s role. Shine Tom Chacko plays the character of Bhasi Pillai. Tovino is said to be playing the all important role of Chacko, but there is still no confirmation on this. The film has its story penned by Jithin K Jose and screenplay written by KS Aravind and Daniel Sayooj Nair.

On the technical front, Nimish Ravi of ‘Luca’ fame is cranking the camera and Sushin Shyam handles the music department. National award winners Vivek Harshan (editor) and Vinesh Banglan (art director) are also part of the crew. ‘Kurup’ is being produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s own production house, Wayfarer Films, and M Stars.

Confirmed: Harbhajan Singh to star in Santhanam’s next

It seems like it’s the season of cricketers venturing to acting. After Sreesanth and Irfan Pathan, it’s the turn of Harbhajan Singh to star in an upcoming Tamil film. Bhajji, as he is fondly called by cricket lovers, will be playing an important role in Santhanam’s new film ‘Dikkiloona’.

After playing a couple of seasons for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Harbhajan Singh has become very popular with the Tamil masses. Some of his tweets written in Tamil language have hugely viral. The makers of ‘Dikkiloona’ will certainly be trying to make use of his popularity.

Karthi Yogi will be directing the film and it is being produced by KJR Studios. Santhanam is playing a triple role in the film, which is a first in his career. Shaji Kailas and Prithviraj Sukumaran to team up?

Just a while back actor Prithviraj shared a teasing poster informing that a big announcement will be made tomorrow through his social media handle. In the poster, it is also that written that it marks a comeback after 6 long years. This has triggered several speculations among fans and talks are already on about the possibility of a sequel for the star’s hit films ‘7th Day’ or ‘Mumbai Police’, both of which were released in 2013.

However, we presume that this new announcement has got something to do with veteran filmmaker Shaji Kailas, who has also shared the poster. It must be noted that the director last made a film in Malayalam six years back in 2013. Moreover, the dialogue used in the poster is from one of his own films, ‘Narasimham’, that had superstar Mohanlal in the lead.

So we firmly believe that tomorrow’s announcement is about Shaji Kailas’ comeback as a director. Prithviraj will either be collaborating with him as an actor or as a producer. Notably, the two had previously worked together in ‘Simhasanam’, that got released in 2012.
