Anna Reshma Rajan joins Ayyappanum Koshiyum

Shoot for Prithviraj-Biju Menon starrer ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ commenced recently in Attapadi. The film is written and directed by Sachi, whose debut film ‘Anarkali’ also had the same two lead actors. It is produced by director Ranjith and his friend PM Sasidharan under the banner of Gold Coin Motion Picture Company.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ deals with the clash between the two titular characters, Ayyappan Nair and Koshi, over a small legal issue. Biju Menon plays Ayappan Nair, a middle-aged police constable posted in Attapadi and Prithviraj essays the part of Koshy Kurian, a havildar who is retired from army after 16 years of service. The story revolves around the battle of egos between the two men.

Anna Reshma Rajan of ‘Angamaly Diaries’ fame plays the female lead. The makers have also roped in another heroine from Kollywood. Siddique, Anu Mohan, Sabumon Abdusamad, Anil Nedumangad, Shaju Sreedhar and many others are part of the supporting cast. Sudeep Elamon of ‘Pathinettam Padi’ and ‘Finals’ fame is the cinematograer and Jakes Bejoy has been signed as the composer. Veteran Ranjan Pramod is the editor.

Mamangam made on a budget of Rs 50 crore, reveals director M Padmakumar

‘Mamangam’ is shaping up as one of the biggest films in Malayalam cinema history. The Mammootty starrer is made on a huge scale with massive production values, star-studded cast and a strong technical crew. According to director M Padmakumar, the whole budget of the film, including its making and publicity, costs up to Rs 50 crore, which easily makes it one of the most expensive Malayalam films ever.

‘Mamangam’, as per the makers, is a historic film with almost 80% of it being inspired from true events. The film is based on the religious festival, Mamangam, that took place every 12 years in a place called Thirunavaya, on the banks of Bharathapuzha, for over 280 years.

For shooting the Mamangam portions, art director Mohandas and his team had erected huge sets in an area sprawling over 18 acres. According to them, it is one of the biggest ever set works in Indian cinema. The film was shot across five schedules in Kannur, Kochi, Ottappalam, Vagamon and Athirapally.

Along with Mammootty, Unni Mukundan is also playing a very important character named Chandroth Panicker. The supporting cast also includes Kaniha, Anu Sithara, Prachi Tehlan, Tarun Arora, Suresh Krishna, Manikuttan, Manikandan, Ineya, Siddique, Sudev Nair and Sudheer Sukumaran. Around 3000 junior artists were also part of the film.

‘Mamangam’ is currently in the final stages of post-production. The film is scheduled to hit screens on November 21. Apart from Malayalam, it is also releasing in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages as well. Venu Kunnappilly of Kavya Films is producing the film.

Hari to direct Suriya 39 after Siva project gets postponed

It seems like the ‘Singam’ combo of Suriya and director Hari are coming together once again. The two are reportedly planning to reunite for a film out of the ‘Singam’ franchise. Buzz is that leading production house Sun Pictures will be producing the duo’s next. An official confirmation is still awaited in this regard.

Apart from the three-part ‘Singam’ series, Suriya and Hari have also worked together in movies like ‘Aaru and Vel’. It is said that their new film will be bigger than the ones from the ‘Singam’ series. Suriya was initially supposed to do his 39th film with Siva but since the director got himself committed for a dream project with Rajinikanth, their film god postponed indefinitely.

Suriya recently wrapped up the shoot of ‘Soorarai Pottru’, which is directed by by Sudha Kongara. The film is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan, who is also a retired captain of the Indian army. It is expected to hit screens in January during the Pongal holidays.

Official: Shahid Kapoor to star in Jersey Hindi remake

Nani’s sports drama ‘Jersey’ is one of the biggest hits in Telugu cinema this year. The film written and directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri had Nani playing the role of a cricketer. It is an inspiring story of a middle-aged making his return to cricket. The film has an universal storyline and naturally talks about it getting remade have been doing the rounds for some time now.

After lots of speculations, the Hindi version of ‘Jersey’ has just been officially announced. Shahid Kapoor will be playing the lead role in the film. The Hindi remake will also be helmed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who directed the original. Allu Aravind, Aman Gill and Dil Raju are producing the film, which is scheduled for release on August 28, 2020.

Apart from the Hindi remake, a Tamil version of ‘Jersey’ is also on cards. The Tamil rights is with actor Rana Dagguabati and he is planning to remake the movie in Tamil with Vishnu Visha in the lead. It must be noted that, Vishnu was a professional cricketer in his younger days. He has also played a cricketer’s role in thr hit film ‘Jeeva’. Nelson Venkatesan of ‘Monster’ and ‘Oru Naal Koothu’ fame is said to be the front runner to direct the Tamil remake.

Bigil eyes a wide release in China!

The trailer of Vijay starrer ‘Bigil’ continues to trend virally. It has already fetched over 21 million views and has broken multiple records in YouTube. After the trailer release, hype around the film has gone to extreme levels. The makers are eyeing to cash in on this as they are planning a huge worldwide release later this month.

Meanwhile, a massive release in China is also on cards. Producer Archana Kalpathi firmly believe that ‘Bigil’ can break into the market as it is sports film and also about women empowerment. The Chinese have welcomed sports films like ‘Dangal’ and women-centric films like ‘Mom’.

The makers of Vijay’s ‘Mersal’ had also tried their best efforts to take the film to China, but it went in vain. Though a simultaneous release for ‘Bigil’ in China is impossible, the makers will be looking to take the film to the country by the end of the year.

Here’s the teaser of Android Kunjappan Version 5.25

Debutant director Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval’s ‘Android Kunjappan Version 5.25’ is getting ready for release. The makers have shared the teaser online and it looks highly promising. It is a film that raised curiosity right from the time of its announcement. Presumably, it is a film about robot-human interaction, something which has been attempted several times in Hollywood, but a first in Malayalam.

As per the makers, ‘Android Kunjappan Version 5.25’ is a family drama with a science fiction element in it. Soubin Shahir plays the lead role of a mechanical engineer and Suraj Venjaramoodu essays the part of his father. Though the two actors have worked together before, more recently in ‘Vikrithi’, this is the first time they will be seen as a father-son duo. Saiju Kurup is also playing a prominent role in the film.

Director Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval has previously worked as a production designer in Bollywood films like ‘Force’, ‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’ and ‘Badhaai Ho’. For his directorial debut, he has got a very efficient technical crew. Sanu John Varughese, who has worked in films like ‘Karthik Calling Karthik’, ‘Wazir’ and the ‘Vishwaroopam’ series is handling the camera. Bijibal is the music director and Saiju Sreedharan is editing the film. It is being produced by Santhosh T Kuruvilla of Moonshot Entertainment.

Last day, the official launch of ‘Stand Up’ was held at Avenue Center, Kochi. Nimisha Sajayan and Rajisha Vijayan are playing the leads in the film, which is directed by State Award winner Vidhu Vincent’s new film ‘Stand Up’. Mammootty was the chief guest at the event, which also saw the presence of directors like Kamal, Joshiy, Salam Bapu and many others. The film is produced jointly by B Unnikrishnan and Anto Joseph.

At the launch event, the trailer of ‘Stand Up’ was also screened. It has also been released online. The film scripted by Umesh Omanakuttan is centered around two young women – played by Rajisha and Nimisha. Stand-up comedy is a concept new to the Malayali audience as stand up shows are still not popular in Kerala, as it is in North India or when compared to other Southern cities like Chennai or Bangalore.

The cast of ‘Stand Up’ also includes Arjun Ashokan, Venkitesh, Nisthar Sait, Seema, Sajitha Madathil, Jolly Chirayath, Rajesh Sharma, Sunil Sukhada and Divya Gopinathan. Its technical crew comprises of cinematographer Tobin Thomas, music director Varkey and editor Christy Sebastian.

Action director from Hollywood to choreograph stunts in Minnal Murali

As announced earlier, Tovino Thomas will be teaming up with his ‘Godha’ director Basil Joseph for a film titled ‘Minnal Murali’. Interestingly, it is a local superhero flick that will have Tovino in the titular role. Since it is an unusual subject, Basil and team have been involved in pre-production works for some time now.

The makers have now announced that the film will have stunts choreographed by Vlad Rimburg from Hollywood. He has worked in films like ‘Fate Of The Furious’, ‘Gemini Man’ etc. In Indian cinema, he was associated with biggies like ‘Baahubali 2’, ‘Sultan’ and ‘Pailwaan’.
