Massive response for Bigil trailer; Fetches 14 million views in record time!

Last day, amidst huge fanfare, the trailer of Vijay starrer ‘Bigil’ got released online. Within less than 24 hours, the trailer has fetched over 14 million views and is trending across all social media platforms. The 2.42 minute trailer is every bit as expected with mass elements loaded in it. It gives a proper sneak peek into the film and gives us an idea to what to expect from the film. From the trailer, the film looks like a mass entertainer with equal dose of sporting action, fun, romance, emotions and the quintessential social message.

Vijay apparently plays a dual role in ‘Bigil’. The star essays the roles of a gangster father and a football enthusiast son, who later becomes a coach. There are also talks about a third character but the makers are yet to confirm this. While the response has largely been positive, there are also criticisms about the shoddy VFX works in the football match sequences.

‘Mersal’ fame GK Vishnu is the cinematographer and Ruben is the editor. AR Rahman is composing music for the film. Among the supporting cast, Nayanthara is paired with Vijay. Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Yogi Babu, Vivek, Indhuja, Varsha Bollamma, Reba Monica John, Daniel Balaji and Anand Raj are also part of the cast.

‘Bigil’ is scheduled for a grand Diwali release later this month. In Kerala, the film will be released jointly by Prithviraj Productions and Listin Stephen’s Magic Frames.

Rangasthalam director Sukumar to remake Lucifer in Telugu!

Recently, during the Kerala promotions of ‘Syee Raa Narasimha Reddy’, Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi revealed that he has acquired the remake rights of Malayalam blockbuster ‘Lucifer’. Chiranjeevi will be reprising the role played by Mohanlal in the original. While Prithviraj directed ‘Lucifer’, the Telugu remake will be helmed by Sukumar. Chiranjeevi’s son, actor Ram Charan will be producing this big budget film.

Sukumar is a very popular director in Tollywood having made blockbuster films like ‘Arya’, ‘Arya 2’, ‘100% Love’ and ‘Nannaku Prematho’. He last helmed the Ram Charan starrer ‘Rangasthalam’, which was also a huge hit, both critically and commercially.

Expectations will be sky high on the Telugu remake of ‘Lucifer’, as the original was a massive commercial success. It is the first and only Malayalam film to have entered the Rs 200 crore club. A second part for ‘Lucifer’, titled as ‘Empuraan’, has already been announced. Shoot is scheduled to begin by mid 2020.

Joju George, Indrajith, Grace Antony and Sharafudheen team up for Halal Love Story

After the widely acclaimed ‘Sudani From Nigeria’, director Zakariya is back with next. His new film has been just been announced through social medias. Titled as ‘Halal Love Story’, the film has Joju George, Indrajith Sukumaran, Sharafudheen and Grace Antony in the lead roles. The former three actors had starred in ‘Virus’, in which Zakariya was also part of.

‘Halal Love Story’ is scripted by Zakariya and Muhsin Parari, who had also penned the National award winning ‘Sudani From Nigeria’. Ajay Menon is the cinematographer and edits will be handled by Saiju Sreedharan. Bijibal and Shahabaz Aman will be composing the music. Director Aashiq Abu is producing the film along with Jesna Ashim and Harshad Ali.

Details regarding the genre or when shoot begins are not yet known.

Peranbu selected for Korean Indian Film Festival

Mammootty’s Tamil film ‘Peranbu’ continues to go places as the film has now been selected for screening at the Korean Indian Film Festival. It is being hosted by the embassy of India in Seoul, Indian Cultural Center Seoul-Busan and Korean Film Archive. Earlier, ‘Peranbu’ was also screened at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR), Shanghai International Film Festival and the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

Upon its theatrical release in February this year, the film directed by Ram found widespread critical acclaim for its poignant storytelling style and the superlative performances of its two lead actors – Mammootty and Sadhana. The former’s phenomenal performance is easily one of the finest in Indian cinema in recent years.

‘Peranbu’ tells the story of an affectionate father and his spastic teenage daughter. Mammootty’s performance as the doting father whose subtle emotional outbursts that come from his helplessness is quite remarkable. He was expected to be a strong contender for this year’s National award for best actor. However, the jury snubbed the film and Mammootty’s performance which led to severe backlash in social medias. The star had to apologize to jury chairman Rahul Rawali for the abuse faced from fans.

Aju Varghese to turn a script writer with ‘Sajan Bakery Since 1962’

We were among the first to report about Aju Varghese turning a script writer. He is teaming up with Arun Chandu for scripting a new film titled ‘Sajan Bakery Since 1962’. Arun is a poster designer turned filmmaker, whose directorial debut ‘Sayanna Varthakal’, starring Gokul Suresh and Dhyan Sreenivasan is gearing up for release. Aju is also acting in ‘Sajan Bakery Since 1962’ and according to him it is a small scale fun film. Other details regarding the cast and crew have not yet been revealed.

Aju Varghese is someone who has always been eager to explore new avenues of filmmaking. Despite being a busy actor, he had assisted Vineeth Sreenivasan in ‘Jacobinte Swargarajyam’. He recently forayed into production with Nivin Pauly-Nayanthara starrer ‘Love Action Drama’. He produced the film jointly with his friend Vishak Subramaniam under their banner Funtastic Films.

On the acting front, Aju currently has some interesting films in his kitty. He is playing the lead role in director Ranjith Sankar’s upcoming thriller ‘Kamala’. He is also playing a grey shaded performance-oriented role in ‘Vritham’, which is directed by actress Gauthami Nair.

Sreesanth all set to make his Tamil debut!

Ever since he was arrested in 2013 for his alleged involvement in the spot fixing incident that rocked IPL, Malayali cricketer Sreesanth has been trying his hand in various fields – dance reality shows, cinema and even politics. Though he was declared not guilty by the supreme court, BCCI, the country’s highest cricketing body, is yet to give him a clearance, which has almost put his sporting career to an end.

However, Sreesanth is still in the limelight. He has already acted in Malayalam, Hindi and and Kannada films. Now, he has now bagged an acting offer from Tamil. He will be making his Kollywood debut with an upcoming Hansika Motwani starrer. This yet-to-be titled film helmed by director duo Hari-Harish is said to be a horror comedy. While Hansika plays the lead role, Sreesanth will be seen as the prime antagonist in the film.

After Unda, Khalidh Rahman teams up with Shane Nigam!

Despite being just two films old, Khalid Rahman has already established himself as a highly promising talent. Both his films ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ and ‘Unda’ belong to entirely different genres. The director’s next will be with Shane Nigam, one of the most talented actors of this generation. Aashiq Usman is producing the film, which is yet to be titled. The makers had recently released a casting call seeking female actors who could pair up with Shane Nigam. More details regarding the project are expected to be officially announced soon.

Shane currently has some interesting projects in his kitty. The 24th edition of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) will held from December 6 to 12 at Thiruvananthapuram. 14 Malayalam films have been selected for screening at the festival. ‘Jallikattu’ and ‘Vrithakrithyilulla Chathuram’ have been selected to the International Competition section. Two other Indian films ‘Aani Maani’ and ‘Lihaafi: The Quilt’ have also been chosen in the competition section.

‘Peranbu’ director Ram pens dialogues for Tamil version of Mamangam

Mammootty’s hugely hyped period flick ‘Mamangam’ is getting ready for release next month. The film is currently in the final stages of post-production. Apart from Malayalam, the film is releasing in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages as well. Apparently, the Tamil version has its dialogues penned by director Ram, who has made films like ‘Kattradhu Tamizh’ and ‘Thanga Meengal’. He had also recently worked with Mammootty in the widely acclaimed, ‘Peranbu’.

Ram is known for his powerful dialogues and hence he is an ideal choice for writing dialogues in ancient Tamil language for ‘Mamangam’. Tamil dubbing for the film is currently progressing and Ram is also involved in it. Last day, he celebrated his birthday in Kochi along with Mammootty, director Padmakumar and other team members of ‘Mamangam’.

‘Mamangam’, as per the makers, is a historic film with almost 80% of it being inspired from real events. The film is based on the religious festival, Mamangam, that took place every 12 years in a place called Thirunavaya, on the banks of Bharathapuzha, for over 280 years.
Mammootty will be seen playing a ‘chaaver’ in the film. The cast also includes Unni Mukundan, Kaniha, Anu Sithara, Prachi Tehlan, Tarun Arora, Suresh Krishna, Manikuttan, Manikandan, Ineya, Siddique, Sudev Nair and Sudheer Sukumaran.

‘Mamangam’ is scheduled to hit screens on November 21. The makers are planning it as the biggest ever release in Kerala. Venu Kunnappilly of Kavya Films is producing the film.
