Pa Ranjith to team up with Arya for a boxing based film!

Director Pa Ranjith has been planning to do a boxing based film for sometime now. It is now being reported that he has roped in Arya for the film and will start shooting very soon. The director was supposed to make his Hindi debut this year with the ‘Birsa Munda’ biopic but the project has apparently been put on hold.

The boxing film with Arya is a story set in North Chennai, a setting that Pa Ranjith had explored quite effectively in the Karthi starrer ‘Madras’. Just like the director’s earlier films, this upcoming one is also expected to deal with topics like oppression and discrimination that happens in the field of sports. Arya’s fit physique and his willingness to put the extra efforts means that he is an ideal choice to play a boxer.

Meanwhile, Arya’s latest release ‘Magamuni’ has opened to unanimously positive reviews. The film directed by ‘Mounaguru’ fame Santhakumar has the actor in a double role and his performance has widely been praised, with many even calling it as his career best.

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is celebrating his birthday today. Fans across the world are wishing the star and social medias are filled with posts and tribute videos about him. As a special treat for the fans, Askhay made a big announcement about his new film. He will be playing king Prithviraj Chahuan in an upcoming historic drama to be directed Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi. Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Films is producing this mega budget project. The makers are planning to release it by next Diwali.

Akshay Kumar took to his official Twitter handle to share the big news. Along with the announcement teaser, he has written,

Dhanush’s new film ‘Asuran’ directed by Vetrimaaran is getting ready for release next month. Last evening, the makers released the trailer — a brilliantly packed one that gives sneak peak into a rustic wild setting. It features some fierce action sequences and looks like a revenge driven flick. The film is based on Poomani’s novel ‘Vekkai’ novel.

Dhanush plays a dual role in the film as father and son. Popular Malayali actress Manju Warrier makes her Tamil debut with this movie. Pasupathi, Prakash Raj, Pavan, Balaji Sakthivel, Ammu Abhirami and Ken Karunas are also part of the supporting cast.

The actor-director duo of Dhanush and Vetrimaaran have given acclaimed films like ‘Polladhavan’, ‘Aadukalam’ and ‘Vada Chennai’. So naturally, expectations are on the higher side for ‘Asuran’. GV Prakash is composing the music and R Velraj is cranking the camera. It is being produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu of V Creations. The makers have announced that October 4 as the release date.

As reported by us earlier, Antony Varghese is starring in a football based film titled ‘Aanaparambile World Cup’. The film is being written and directed by debutant Nikhil Premraj. Stanly C S and Faizal Latheef are jointy producing it under the banner of Achappu Movie Magic and Mass Media Productions. Last day, its launch event was held in Kottakal. Almost all the team members were present for the pooja function. Lead actor Antony Varghese was noticeably absent as he was in Toronto for the premier of his upcoming film ‘Jallikattu’.

The makers had recently released a casting call looking for aspiring teenage actors, who have a flair in playing football as well. The film has newcomer Faiz Siddik cranking the camera and Jakes Bejoy handling the music department. Noufal Abdullah is in charge of the edits. More details are expected to be officially announced shortly.

Mohanlal congratulates Indrans on winning the Best Actor award at Singapore South Asian International Film Festival

Dr Biju’s new film ‘Veyilmarangal’ (Trees Under the Sun) was recently screened at the Singapore South Asian International Film Festival. Lead actor Indrans bagged the Best Actor award for his extraordinary performance in the film. This is the first international award for Indrans, a veteran who has been active in Malayalam film industry for over three decades. Ever since the news broke, industry insiders and Malayalam movie lovers have been heaping applause on Indrans for his remarkable achievement. Superstar Mohanlal has also congratulated Indrans through his official social media handle. It is so heartening to such a camaraderie existing between fellow actors.

‘Veyilamarangal’ had its world premiere at the 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival held in June. It was the only Indian film in the main competition section. It was selected for competing for the Golden Goblet Award for Best Feature Film along with 14 other films, shortlisted from 3964 submissions from 112 countries.

‘Veyilmarangal’ eventually went on to win the ‘Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award’. It was also the first Indian film in six years to compete in the festival and the only Indian film ever to win an award there.

They both will be seen as sales girls working in a textile shop.

Kalidas Jayaram’s new film ‘Happy Sardar’ is gearing up for release. The movie marks the debut of writer-director couple Sudip Joshy and Geethika Sudip. Kalidas plays a Punjabi Sardar named Happy Singh in the film. Last day, a new song from the film was released online. Titled as ‘Patiala Peg’, this fun track is sung by Zia Ul Haq. Gopi Sunder has composed the song and it has catchy lyrics by BK Harinarayanan. Kalidas, debutante Merin Philip, Sreenath Bhasi and Siddhi Mahajankatti of ‘Aanandam’ feature in this peppy track.

As per the makers, ‘Happy Sardar’ is a fun entertainer that is centred around a love story between a Punjabi and a Malayali Christian girl. Merin Philip is paired with Kalidas in the movie. Bollywood actor Javed Jaffrey will be appearing in a prominent role as Kalidas’ father. There is also an elaborate supporting cast comprising of Siddique, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Shanthi Krishna, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Maala Parvathi, Vishak Nair, Ramesh Pisharody, Dharmajan, Praveena and Baiju.

Cinematographer Abhinandan Ramanujam, composer Gopi Sunder and editor Shameer Muhammed form the movie’s core technical crew.

The ‘Vellimoonga’ combo of Biju Menon and director Jibu Jacob are coming together once again. Their new film ‘Adhyarathri’ is gearing up to hit screens. Its official trailer has just been released online. Just like the duo’s previous film, this one also looks like an out and out fun entertainer. Sharis Mohammed and Jebin Joseph Antony of ‘Queen’ fame have jointly scripted the film.

Biju Menon and Jibu Jacob are expected to repeat the huge success of ‘Vellimoonga’. It also stars Aju Varghese and ‘Thaneermathan Dhinangal’ fame Anaswara Raja in major roles. Vijayaraghavan, Pauly Valsan, Sreelakshmi, Manoj Guinness, Sarjano Khalid, Biju Sopanam, Althaf and Chembil Ashokan are also part of the supporting cast.

On the technical side, Sadiq Khabeer is the cameraman and music is composed by Bijibal. Sooraj ES is handling the edits. Central Pictures is producing and releasing the movie.

As already reported by us, Indrajith Sukumaran is starring in a sports flick titled ‘Aaha’. It is based on Kerala’s own sport, ‘tug of war’ aka ‘vadamvali’. Since it is the Onam season, there is no other perfect time to release a song on ‘vadamvali’. The track has just been released via Prithviraj’s official social media handle.

Debutant Bibin Paul Samuel is editing and directing ‘Aaha’. Tobit Chirayath has scripted the film, which is said to be inspired from a famous team ‘Aaha Neeloor’ that had won a stunning 72 matches out of the 73 they played in the 2008 season.

Along with Indrajith, the movie also stars ‘Vaarikuzhiyile Kolapathakam’ fame Amit Chakalakkal and Ashwin K Kumar in major roles. Santhy Balachandran of ‘Tharangam’ fame has been signed as the female lead. The film has a relatively new set of names behind the camera. Cinematographer Rahul Balachandran, music directors Sayanora Philip and Shiyad Kabeer (background score) are part of the technical crew.

‘Aaha’ is being produced by Prem Abraham of Zsa Zsa Productions. More details are expected to be revealed by the makers in the coming days.
