Lucifer becomes the first Malayalam movie to gross 50 crores from overseas centres

Mohanlal is unarguably the biggest crowd puller in Malayalam and the tremendous success of his latest release, ‘Lucifer’ once again proves that. The movie has shatter multiple box office records and haa already crossed the elite Rs 150 crore mark. Adding another feather to its cap, ‘Lucifer’ has now become the first Malayalam movie to gross Rs 50 crores from its overseas run. Interestingly, almost Rs 40 crores of this is from the UAE, GCC collections alone. The movie has also done well in some European countries, New Zealand and Australia.

Recently, India’s leading trade analyst Taran Adarsh had written about how ‘Lucifer’ is a trendsetter for Malayalam movies. The movie has done exceptional business everywhere, despite facing tough completion from other language movies. According to him, the success of ‘Lucifer’ in the international arena will certainly open the eyes of the Malayalam industry and encourage makers to explore newer markets, besides the existing traditional ones

‘Lucifer’, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and scripted by Muriali Gopy, is a mass entertainer set in the backdrop of Kerala politics. Mohanlal plays the lead role in the movie, that also stars Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Sai Kumar and Saniya Iyappan in important roles.

Earlier, other film industry personalities like Sathyan Anthikad, Madhupal, Jude Anthany Joseph, Arun Gopy, Sithara Krishnakumar and politicians VM Sudheeran and KK Shailaja had praised the movie. The Manu Ashokan directorial tells the story of an acid attack survivor. Parvathy plays the lead role in the movie, which also has Asif Ali, Tovino Thomas, Siddique and Anarkali Marakkar in key roles.

‘Uyare’ addressed various relevant issues like beauty misconceptions, toxic relationships, patriarchy and how an acid attack survivor overcomes all obstacles to lead a dignified life. It is an ideally empowering film with plenty of emotions and excellent performances.

Dileep is currently shooting for ‘Jack Daniel’. Today, on the occasion of May Day, the makers shared a glimpse of Dileep’s look from the movie. SL Puram Jayasurya of ‘Speed Track’ fame is directing the movie which has Dileep and veteran Tamil actor Arjun in the lead roles. The latter had joined the team only last day.

‘Jack Daniel’ marks Dileep’s first film with Arjun. It is said to be an action packed film planned on a big scale. Anju Kurian of ‘Kavi Udheshichathu’ and ‘Njan Prakashan’ fame is the female lead. Saiju Kurup, Devan and Aju Varghese are also part of the cast.

Peter Hein is handling the action choreography and music is composed by Gopi Sunder. The movie has cinematography by Sivakumar Vijayan, who has cranked camera for Tamil films like ‘NGK’, ‘Iraivi’ and ‘Irudhi Suttru’.

Shibu Thameens of Thameens Films is producing the film.

Chiyaan Vikram’s new film ‘Kadaram Kondan’ is gearing up for release. As informed earlier by the makers, the first single from the movie has been released today. Shruti Haasan has lent his voice for this track, which is set to tunes by Ghibran. Priyan has penned the lyrics and rap lyrics is by Shabir.

‘Kadaram Kondaan’ is directed by ‘Thoongavanam’ fame Rajesh M Selva. The movie is touted to be an action packed thriller. From the earlier released teaser, it is presumed that Vikram plays the role of a cop. The movie has him sporting a stylish salt and pepper bearded look. He has also rendered a track in the movie.

‘Kadaram Kondaan’ also has Kamal Haasan’s younger daughter Akshara Haasan, Abi Hasan and Malayali actress Lena essaying key roles.
In the technical front, the movie has Srinivasa R Gutha wielding the camera, Ghibran as the music director and Praveen KL handling the edits.

Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan is producing the movie under his banner Raajkamal Films International. Tridents Arts is also associated with the movie’s production. Official announcement regarding the release date is expected to be made soon.

Guinness Pakru starrer ‘Ilayaraja’ is set to hit screens in UAE from tomorrow (May 2). The movie is releasing in Bharain, Qatar, Oman, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Kuwait and other major centres. It is directed by Madhav Ramadasan of ‘Melvilasom’ and ‘Apothecary’ fame.

‘Ilayarajaa’ originally released on March 22 and garnered appreciation from critics. It is the story of Vanajan, a vertically challenged man who works as a roadside peanut vendor. It is an inspiring tale of how the underprivileged Vanajan defies odds to reach new heights finds.

Guinness Pakru’s performance in the movie was widely praised. The movie has an elaborate supporting cast comprising of Deepak Parambol, Gokul Suresh, Kavitha Nair, Anil Nedumangad, Baby Ardra, Master Adhithyan, Jayaraj Warrier, Alphy Panjikaran, Binish Babu and many others.

Pradeep Nair is the cinematographer and music is handled by Ratheesh Vega. V Saajan will be editing the movie. The makers have planned to shoot the movie in July.

The trailer of Shafi directorial Children Park’s was just released through Prithviraj’s official social media handle. The movie has Sharafudheen, Vishnu Unnikrishnan and ‘Queen’ fame Dhruvan in the lead roles. The trailer gives hints of a fun entertainer with some action and thrills.

Shafi is one of the most successful filmmakers in Malayalam cinema. The director is a big favourite among the family audience as most of his films have been crowd-pleasing comedy entertainers. ‘Children’s Park’ marks his reunion with his writer-brother Raffi after the massive success of ‘Two Countries’.

The movie has three heroines in Manasa Radhakrishnan, Gayathri Suresh and Soumya Menon. The supporting cast includes veteran Madhu, Hareesh Kanaran, Raffi, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Sreejith Ravi, Shivaji Guruvayoor, Nobi and Basil.

Devadas Kadanjeri and Shailaja Manikandan are producing the movie under the banner of Pattam Cinema Company.

‘Thottappan’ looks highly promising and director Shanavas firmly believes that Vinayakan has delivered his finest performance so far. The movie marks Vinayakan’s debut as a lead actor. He plays a girl child’s godfather (thalathottappan) in the movie. It explores the relationship between a godfather and his goddaughter.

‘Thottappan’ is based on the book of the same name by Francis Noronha. PS Rafeeque has written the screenplay based on Francis Noronha’s story. The cast also includes Dileesh Pothan, newcomer Priyamvada, Lal, Roshan Mathew, Manoj K Jayan, Reghunath Paleri, Kochu Preman and Pauly Valsan.

In the technical crew, Suresh Rajan is wielding the camera and Jithin Manohar is handling the edits. Leela L Girikkuttan is composing the songs and Justin Varghese is in charge of the background score.
