Darbar: Here’s the first look poster of superstar Rajinikanth’s next

As informed last evening, the first look poster of Rajinikanth’s new film (Thalaivar 167) has just been released online. AR Murugadoss is directing the movie, which has been titled as ‘Darbar’. The movie has the role of a Mumbai based police officer. Nayanthara has been signed as the female lead. Nivetha Thomas is also said to be playing a crucial role in the movie.

AR Murugadoss is fresh from the success of ‘Sarkar’, which was a mass entertainer set in a political backdrop. ‘Darbar’ is most likely to be an out and out mass entertainer just like how the superstar’s fans expect. It has been a long while since he played a cop, so fans are highly excited about it.

Santosh Sivan will be wielding the camera and Anirudh Ravichander will be handling the music department. Veteran Sreekar Prasad is the editor. Lyca Productions, who last collaborated with Rajinikanth, in 2.0, is producing this movie. Shoots will be commencing formally from tomorrow (April 10). The makers have also announced that the movie will be hitting screens for Pongal, next year.

Suriya 38: Suriya’s next with Sudha Kongara starts rolling

After the launch last day, Suriya’s new film (Suriya 38) with director Sudha Kongara has gone on floors today. Shoot has commenced in Chennai. The movie has Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali as the female lead. GV Prakash is the composer and Niketh Bommireddy is handling the cinematography.

‘Suriya 38’ is a very ambitious project. The makers have been involved with the pre-production works for over a year now. Reports suggest that the movie is a biopic on GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan and a retired captain of the Indian army, but the makers are yet
to confirm this. It is scripted jointly by Shalini Usha Nair and Sudha Kongara. Vijay Kumar of ‘Uriyadi’ fame is said to have penned the dialogues.

Guneet Monga, who recently bagged the Oscar award for her critically acclaimed documentary production, ‘Period. End of Sentence’, is entering Kollywood with this movie. Guneet’s Sikhya Entertainment is producing the movie jointly with Suriya’s 2D Entertainment.

Ever since its release on March 28, Mohanlal starrer ‘Lucifer’ has been doing extraordinary business at the box office. The makers Aashirvad Cinemas has officially informed that the movie has grossed Rs 100 crores from just eight days of theatrical run. They have shared the news on their official social media handle and thanked the Malayali audience for their continuous support.

‘Lucifer’, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and scripted by Muriali Gopy, is a mass entertainer set in the backdrop of Kerala politics. Mohanlal plays the lead role in the movie, that also stars Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Sai Kumar and Saniya Iyappan in prominent roles

Guinness Pakru starrer ‘Ilayaraja’ hit screens on March 22, Friday. The movie has now entered its third week of theatrical run in selected centres. Recently, the makers had a small celebration at the Kairali theatre in Thrissur. Guinness Pakru, director Madhav Ramadasan and some other members from the cast and crew were present.

‘Ilayaraja’ is the story of Vanajan, a vertically challenged man who works as a roadside peanut vendor. It is an inspiring tale of how the underprivileged Vanajan defies odds to reach new heights finds.

Debutant Vivek is directing the movie which looks like a mystrey thriller. The trailer is highly impressive and has a lot of intriguing moments. It is set in a mysterious mental asylum where Fahadh Fassil’s character lands as a doctor.

National award winner PF Mathews, who last penned the widely acclaimed ‘Ee Maa Yau’, has scripted ‘Athiran’. Along with Fahadh and Sai Pallavi, the movie also has an elaborate supporting cast comprising of some seasoned actors like Prakash Raj, Lena, Atul Kulkarni, Shanthi Krishna, Renji Panicker, Leona Lishoy, Sudev Nair, Vijay Menon, Surabhi Lakshmi and Nandu.

PS Jayahari has composed the songs and background score is done by Ghibran. Anu Moothedath is the cinematographer and Ayopb Khan is the editor. Century Investments has produced the movie, which is slated for release on April 12.

Nimisha Sajayan, who recently won the Kerala State award for her performance in the yet-to-be released ‘Chola’ and ‘Oru Kuprasidha Payyan’, has bagged a heroine centric film. She will be teaming up with director Vidhu Vincent for a movie titled ‘Stand Up’. Its first look poster was shared just a while back in social medias.

In 2017, Vidhu Vincent became the first woman to win the Kerala State Film Award for the Best Director. She won the award for her debut film ‘Manhole’. At the 21st International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), the film also won two awards – the FIPRESCI Award for Best Malayalam Film and the Silver Crow Pheasant Award (Best Debutant Director) for Vidhu Vincent.

From the first look poster, we presume that Nimsiha’s film with Vidhu will be about a stand-up comedienne. It is a subject that is new to the Malayali audience as stand up shows are not yet popular here. Silicon Media is producing the movie. Other details regarding the supporting cast, crew and when shoot starts is expected to announced shortly.

Academy award winner Resul Pookutty’s maiden film as an actor, ‘The Sound Story’ hit screens recently. As part of its promotion, Pookutty had an interaction recently with Cube, an online media group, in which he revealed interesting tidbits about ‘Trance’, the upcoming Malayalam movie he is working on. The Fahadh Fassil starrer directed by Anwar Rasheed has been in the making for nearly two years now and is eagerly awaited.

Resul Pookutty has pinned high hopes on the movie and he promised that it will undoubtedly be a treat for the native audience. He is quoted saying, “Trance is a very ambitious film. It’s a larger than life film that reflects several realities happening around us. Third schedule shoot is currently progressing. We’ve put in lot of efforts for its making and I’m sure it will be a treat for the Malayali audience.”

The makers of ‘Trance’ have revealed very less details about the movie, which includes its genre. Naturally, it has piqued the audience’s curiosity. Debutant Vincent Vadakkan has scripted the movie. Along with Fahadh, the movie also has a solid cast comprising of Nazriya Nazim, Soubin Shahir, Chemban Vinod Jose, Vinayakan, Dileesh Pothan, Arjun Ashokan and Sreenath Bhasi.

Amal Neerad cranks the camera and Jackson Vijayan is in charge of the music department. Director Anwar Rasheed himself is producing ‘Trance’ under his own banner Anwar Rasheed Entertainment. It is said to be the most expensive film in Fahadh’s career. It is said that the makers are planning to release the movie for this year’s Onam in September.

As reported by us earlier, Suriya’s next (Suriya 38) is with director Sudha Kongara of ‘Irudhi Suttru’ fame. The movie has been in the planning for a long time now. It is said to be an ambitious project that demanded extensive pre-production works. Music director GV Prakash had started composing for the movie nearly a year back. He has collaborated with Kerala based popular indie rock band Thaikkudam Bridge for a song in the movie. Arunraja Kamaraja, who has written lyrics chartbuster songs in ‘Kabali’, ‘Theri’ and ‘Mersal’, has penned this one as well.
