Rajinikanth as a police officer in his next; Nayanthara and Nivetha Thomas in major roles

As we already know, Rajinikanth’s next film is with director AR Murugadoss. Shoot for the movie is reportedly scheduled to go on floors from April 10. The superstar recently had a look test for the movie and is said that the first look poster will be released very shortly. He plays a police officer in this movie, which is set in Mumbai.

Nayanthara has reportedly been signed as the female lead. Malayli actress Nivetha Thomas will be seen as Rajnikanth’s daughter in the movie. An official confirmation is awaited in this regard. Nivetha is a popular actress in Tamil and Telugu, having starred in films like ‘Gentleman’, ‘Jai Lava Kusa’ and ‘Ninnu Kori’. She has also played daughter roles to superstars Mohanlal (Jilla) and Kamal Haasan (Papanasam).

According to director Murugadoss, his film with Rajinikanth will be a complete mass entertainer just like how the superstar’s fans expect. Ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan and composer Anirudh Ravichander have already been signed for the movie.Official announcement with full details regarding the cast and crew is expected to be made before shoot commences.

Ponniyin Selvan: Mani Ratnam to helm another big multi-starrer

Director Mani Ratnam has been working on the adaptation of historical novel ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ for years now. He had first started the project back in 2012 but was forced to shelve it due to the huge production cost involved. Reports have now emerged that the director is collaborating with Lyca Productions for adapting the five volume novel penned by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The novel has several prominent characters and buzz is that Mani Ratnam is assembling a huge star cast once again after ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the director is trying to cast Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Karthi, Keerthy Suresh and Mohan Babu for the various major roles in the movie. The makers are planning the it as a two part film, which will be released in Tamil,Telugu and Hindi. Shoot is expected to commence by September, but before that an official announcement will be made.

Suriya 38 launched; Aparna Balamurali signed as the female lead

As reported by us earlier, Suriya’s next (Suriya 38) is with director Sudha Kongara of ‘Irudhi Suttru’ fame. The movie was launched today in Chennai. Prominent members of the cast and crew were present for the launch. Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali has been signed as the female lead. GV Prakash is the composer and Niketh Bommireddy will be handling the cinematography.

Guneet Monga, who recently bagged the Oscar award for her critically acclaimed documentary production, ‘Period. End of Sentence’, is making her entry to Kollywood with this movie. Guneet’s Sikhya Entertainment is collaborating with Suriya’s 2D Entertainment for its production.

‘Suriya 38’ is said to be a very ambitious project. The makers have been involved with the pre-production works for over a year. Reports suggest that it is a biopic on GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan and a retired captain of the Indian army, but the makers are yet
to confirm this.

Mammootty’s CBI 5 to hit screens for Onam?

It has been long since reports about the fifth instalment in CBI series started emerging. Director K Madhu and scriptwriter SN Swamy have also confirmed the project and they have been waiting for Mammootty’s dates. We hear that the makers are planning to start shortly and release it for this year’s Onam in September.

CBI series is easily the most popular franchise in Malayalam cinema. The lead character Sethurama Iyer, a brilliant investigating officer who solves his cases using brain over brawn, is among Mammootty’s most celebrated characters of all-time. Four installments of the series have been made and all the four films were helmed by K Madhu and scripted by SN Swamy.

Earlier in an award show, Swamy had said that the fifth installment, which will also be the final part in the CBI series, will be one of the best ever thrillers that Malayalam cinema has produced till date. He is quoted saying, “I’m sure it will be a great experience for the audience. It’s the result of three years of my hardwork. Climax of the movie will redefine the way future thrillers are made in Malayalam. It will trigger the start of a new wave.”

Mammootty is currently shooting for ‘Maamaankam’. After that he will start working on Ramesh Pisharody’s ‘Ganagandharvan’. If things go as per plans, CBI 5 will go on floors after the completion of ‘Ganagandharvan’. ‘Ameer’ with Vinod Vijayan is another project in the pipeline.

Recently, the first song from Asif Ali starrer ‘OP 160/18 Kakshi : Amminippilla’ was released in social medias. Actor Mammootty shared the song through his official page. The song ‘Thalasserykkare Kanda’ is composed by Samuel Aby. Mustafa and Judith Ann have rendered the track, lyrics for which is penned by Manu Manjith. The song visuals give vibes of a fun film set in the socio-cultural space of Thalassery.

The movie directed by debutant Dinjith Ayyathan and scripted by Sanilesh Shivan is said to be a court-room drama centred around the case of a newly wed couple, Shajith Kumar Amminipilla and wife Kanthi Sivadasan. Asif Ali plays the lead role of advocate Pradeepan Manjodi, a political aspirant who takes up the case.

Others in the supporting cast include Ahmed Siddique, Basil Joseph, Nirmal Palazhy, Sudheesh, Vijayaraghavan, Mamukkoya, Sreekanth Murali, Lukman, Aswathy Manoharan, Shibla and Sarayu Mohan. The movie has songs composed by Arun Muraleedharan and Samuel Aby. Background score is done by Jakes Bejoy.

As we already know, director Kabir Khan is making a film on India’s historic 1983 cricket world cup win. The film aptly titled as 83 has Ranveer Singh playing the lead role as Kapil Dev, who was the team’s skipper. The crew is currently in Dharamsala for training and Kapil has also joined them. Ranveer shared photos taken with the legendary cricketer in his official social media handles. Kapil, Balwinder Sandhu and Yashpal Sharma are training the actors. After the training, the team will be travelling to England where bulk of the portions will be shot.

’83’ has a big star cast comprising of actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Ammy Virk, Jiva and Harrdy Sandhu among others. Tamil actor Jiiva is making his Hindi debut with this film. He will be essaying the role of former Indian cricket team opener Krishnamachari Srikanth. Jiiva, who has a cricketing background having played the game in various levels, has been training rigorously for the movie.

Jayaram and Sathyan Anthikad to reunite after nine years!!

Veteran director Sathyan Anthikad is fresh from the superhit success of ‘Njan Prakashan’. The Fahadh Faasil starrer was one of the biggest box office hits in Malayalam last year. After ‘Njan Prakashan’, it was said that the director would be teaming up with Mammootty for a new film. But we now hear that the project will be delayed due to the star’s busy schedule.

Sathyan Anthikad meanwhile will be teaming up with Jayaram for his next. The duo is one of the most successful actor-director combos in Malayalam. They have teamed up for several memorable films like ‘Mazhavilkavadi’, ‘Sandesham’, ‘Thalayanamanthram’, ‘Manassinakkare’, ‘Bhagyadevatha’ etc. They last worked together in ‘Kadha Thudarunnu’, which was released in 2010.

Expectations will naturally be high when Jayaram reunites with Sathyan Anthikad after nearly a decade. The former has been going through a rough patch for sometime now, so a typical Sathyan Anthikad style entertainer will help him get back to his best.

Jayaram is currently shooting for ‘Pattabhiraman’, directed by Kannan Thamarakkulam. It his fourth film with the director after ‘Thinkal Muthal Velli Vare’, ‘Aadupuliyattam’ and ‘Achayans’. The actor also has a couple of other films in his kitty. He recently completed shooting for Aneesh Anwar’s ‘Grand Father’, which is expected to hit screens shortly. He has also signed for a movie titled ‘Marconi Mathai’, which will also mark the Malayalam debut of popular Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi.

Suresh Gopi, Shobhana and Nazriya to team up!

As trustworthy reports, veteran actors Suresh Gopi and Shobhana are set to make a comeback through the directorial debut of Sathyan Anthikad’s son, Anoop Sathyan. Nazriya, who made her return to silver screen last year with ‘Koode’, will also be a part of this upcoming movie. Other details regarding the genre or when shoot commences are not yet known. An official announcement is expected to be made shortly.

Shobhana and Suresh Gopi have acted together in numerous hit films like ‘Manichithrathazhu’, ‘Innale’, ‘Commissioner’ and ‘Rajaputhran’. They last acted together in Jayaraj’s ‘Makalku’, released back in 2005. It will be very interesting to see the two sharing screen space after such a long gap.

Of late, both the actors have not been very active in cinema, with Shobhana making her last appearance in the 2013 released, ‘Thira’. Suresh Gopi, on the other hand, is more into politics and is currently the candidate of BJP from Thrissur constituency for the Lok Sabha elections.

Vinayan confirms about his plans to team up with Mohanlal for a movie based on Ravanan

Recently, director Vinayan had announced that he would soon be teaming up with superstar Mohanlal. During its announcement itself, he had made it clear that it will be a project made on a big canvas. Last day, the director had shared a painting of an artist’s impression of Mohanlal as the mythological character Ravanan. It soon triggered speculations in social medias about Vinayan and Mohanlal teaming up for a film on Ravanan.

The director has now made it clear that he indeed has plans to do such a film. He will be meeting Mohanlal this month to discuss the project and an official confirmation will be made only after that. According to Vinayan, he was always fascinated by the character of Ravanan and wishes to make a film that portrays him as the hero. He is now waiting for a nod from Mohanlal’s part.

Vinayan also firmly believes that if he could make a movie like ‘Athbhutha Dweepu’, fourteen years back with minimal available resources, he can easily make an epic film today, with the help of VFX and other latest techniques. The director is currently working on the sequel to his superhit horror flick, ‘Akashanganga’. He has also committed for a film with Jayasurya.

Mohanlal on the other hand has multiple projects coming up. Later this month, he will start shooting for ‘Ittymaani Made In China’, directed by debutant duo Jibi-Joju. ‘Big Brother’ with veteran Siddique, and an untitled film with Arun Gopy are his other projects in the pipeline.

Jayasurya to star in legendary actor Sathyan’s biopic

After winning the Kerala State award for his performance as late footballer VP Sathyan in ‘Captain’, Jayasurya is set to star in another biopic. It will be based on the life of legendary Malayalam actor Sathyan. Vijay Babu of Friday Film House has bagged the rights for the biopic, but details regarding the director and when they are planning to start shooting are not yet known.

Sathyan, popularly known as Sathyan Master, was one of the first major stars in Malayalam cinema. At a time when acting was more dramatic, Sathyan was popular for his realistic style of performance. A recipient of two State awards, Sathyan has acted in over 100 films between 1951 and 1971. ‘Thacholi Othenan’, ‘Odayil Ninnu’, ‘Chemeen’, ‘Yakshi’ and ‘Anubhavangal Paalichakal’ are some of his most popular films. It will be interesting to see how a versatile actor like Jayasurya brings life to Sathyan’s character.

Jayasurya is currently working on ‘Lilli’ fame Prasobh Vijayan’s new film. He has also committed for a film titled ‘Vellam’ with director Prajesh Sen of ‘Captain’ fame.
