Kerala box office to witness a three-way clash this Vishu

Vishu season is fast approaching and as always we have some exciting films coming up in Malayalam. The Nadirshah directorial ‘Mera Naam Shaji’ will be the first to kick-start the race. The movie is scheduled for release on April 5. Starring Asif Ali, Biju Menon and Baiju Santhosh in the leads, the movie is expected to be an outright fun-filled mass entertainer. The teaser and songs released so far have also hinted at the same.

Mammootty’s ‘Madura Raja’ is unarguably the most awaited among the Vishu releases. The Vysaksh directorial has Mammootty reprising his character from the 2010 blockbuster film, ‘Pokkiri Raja’. Udhayakrishna, who wrote the original along with Sibi K Thomas, has scripted this one alone. The movie has sky-high expectations majorly due to the fact that Vysakh-Udhayakrishna combo’s last film ‘Pulimurugan’ was a record breaking blockbuster. Mammootty fans will be hoping that the duo can repeat the success this time as well. From the promos, the movie promises to be an action packed mass entertainer.

Fahadh Faasil starrer ‘Athiran’ is the third film in the race. It is probably the least hyped among the three releases – the reason being the lack of publicity. The makers are yet to release the teaser or trailer.But on paper,the team looks super impressive with a solid cast and crew. Fahadh and Sai Pallavi play the lead roles. Debutant Vivek is directing the movie and ‘Ee Maa Yau’ writer PF Mathews is scripting it.

Vijay Sethupathi’s new film titled Sanga Tamizhan

Vijay Sethupathi is currently shooting for his new film with director Vijay Chander of ‘Sketch’ and ‘Vaalu’ fame. Vijaya Productions is producing the movie, which is touted to be complete commercial mass entertainer just like the director’s earlier two films.

As per latest reports, this upcoming movie has been titled as ‘Sanga Tamizhan. Raashi Khanna and Nivetha Pethuraj are playing the two female leads. Others in the cast include Soori, Nasser, Asutosh Rana, Ravi Kishan and John Vijay. The makers have signed Vivek – Mervin duo to compose music.

Director Vijay Chander’s first two films – ‘Vaalu’ and ‘Sketch’ failed to impress the critics and had a lukewarm run at the box office. So the director will be trying to correct his mistakes and a deliver a hit this time.

Vijay Sethupathi meanwhile has his long delayed ‘Super Deluxe’ finally hitting screens this Friday (March 29). The actor also has some other promising films like ‘Maamanithan’ and ‘Sindhubaadh’ coming up. Besides that,he has also committed for films with directors SP Jananathan, Venkata Krishna Roganth, Prabhu and Delhiprasad Deenadayal. The actor is making his Malayalam debut this year with ‘Marconi Mathai’, in which he will be playing one of the leads alongside Jayaram.

With just a few hours left for the release of ‘Lucifer’, there is a sense of excitement all around. Social media platforms are dominated by talks about this highly anticipated film. As per the makers, the movie will be releasing in a 3079 theatres worldwide, which includes 400 centres in home state, Kerala, alone. Besides producing, Mohanlal’s Aashirvad Cinemas is also distributing the movie in Kerala.

‘Lucifer’ directed by Prithviraj has Mohanlal in the lead role as Stephen Nedumbally. Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Bala, Nyla Usha and many others are part of the cast. Prithviraj also appears in a brief cameo role.

‘Lucifer’ has tremendous hype due to multiple factors. Prithviraj and Mohanlal are teaming up for the first time; Murali Gopy’s script; and the presence of such a big star cast. The super impressive trailer has also heightened the expectations of the audience, which includes both the fans as well as the commoners.

With such huge hype and theatre count, the movie is most likely to take a record opening at the Kerala box office.

Tovino Thomas’ new film ‘Kalki’ formally went on floors today. The movie directed by debutant Praveen Prabharam has Tovino playing a police officer. The actor is seen sporting a handlebar moustache in the photos and it we guess that’s his look in the movie. Though Tovino has played cop roles in films like ‘Ezra’ and ‘Tharangam’, this will be his first film in which he will be seen in a full fledged police officer role.

‘Kalki’ is also said to be his first full length mass entertainer. For the last few months, he had been putting on a lot of efforts to develop a bulky physique. According to the makers,Tovino’s character in the movie will be larger than life like a mass hero. It will be an action packed film with all commercial gimmicks.

‘Kalki’ is scripted by director Praveen and Sujin Sujathan.Jakes Bejoy is handling the music department and Gautham Sankar of ‘Theevandi’ and ‘Ladoo’ fame cranks the camera.Suvin K Krishna and Prasobh Krishna are producing the movie under the banner of Little Big Films.

We had earlier reported about actor Neeraj Madhav and his brother Navneeth Madhav coming together to make a new movie. The latter is turning a director with a new movie titled ‘Ennile Villain’. Neeraj plays the lead role in it and its first look poster was released last day in social medias. Along with sharing the poster in his social media handle, Neeraj has also written,

The highly anticipated Tamil film ‘Super Deluxe’ is all set to storm screens this Friday (March 29). Thiagarajan Kumararaja has directed the movie which stars Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha, Ramya Krishnan and Mysskin in the lead roles. It s eagerly awaited by serious cinephiles across the country. The director is making a comeback eight years after he made his debut with the cult-hit ‘Aaranya Kaandam’.

Though there were a few doubts initially, it has now been confirmed that ‘Super Deluxe’ will be having a simultaneous release in Kerala. Fahadh’s presence is expected to work in the movie’s favour during its Kerala release. United Global Media is releasing the movie in Kerala.

‘Super Deluxe’ will be clashing with the much-hyped ‘Lucifer’, which will be hitting screens a day earlier on March 28, Thursday. The Mohanlal starrer has tremendous expectations and is most likely to take a huge opening at the Kerala box office. Bookings were opened a week back and almost all the major centres are showing full occupancy for the opening day.

It will interesting to see how ‘Super Deluxe’ fares against the mighty ‘Lucifer’.

AR Rahman to compose Avengers: Endgame anthem

‘Avengers: Endgame’ is highly anticipated by Marvel fans across the globe. The film is going to be more special for the Indian fans as the makers have planned to release an anthem to excite the desi audience. Academy award winning composer A.R. Rahman has created India’s Marvel anthem. The song will come out in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages. It is scheduled to be released online on April 1.

“Avengers: Endgame is not just a movie, it is an emotional journey for fans everywhere in India. An original composition by Oscar winner AR Rahman was the perfect way to celebrate the love for Marvel among fans in the country. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ has a huge star cast comprising of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle and many others. The film is all set to hit the theatres across India on April 26.

Alphonse Puthren confirms that his next film is a musical

It’s been four years since Alphonse Puthren made the sensational ‘Premam’. Since then, the director has been away from the limelight, but cine lovers have eagerly been waiting to hear updates about his new film. Alphonse had hinted that he is planning a musical film in Tamil. Recently, during a casual interaction with his followers in Facebook, the director confirmed the same when asked about his next project.

Alphonse said that script works are almost over but he is still in the process of updating his knowledge in music. He also jestingly added that, like his earlier two films, ‘Premam’ and ‘Neram’, this one also will not have any fresh elements. He has written,

“Update is I’m updating my knowledge for the next film in music. That is why konjam delay. Script is almost complete. Music recording is going on. Pre Production and Audition has not yet started. ? Ulaga cinema varalatril puthuma ethum ilaatha irandaavathu tamizh thirai padam ready aayittirukku”.

It is said that Alphonse’s upcoming Tamil film will have Kalidas Jayaram in the lead. His regular set of technicians – cinematographer Anand C Chandran and composer Rajesh Murugesan, are also expected to be part of the film.

As we already know, Ajith’s next release is ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ directed by H Vinoth of ‘Theeran’ fame. The movie, which is the official remake of acclaimed Hindi film ‘Pink’, has Ajith reprising Amitabh Bachchan’s role from the original. Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor, husband of late actress Sridevi, is making his debut in Kollywood by producing this movie.

While there were talks about the makers planning for a May release, it has now been officially announced that the movie will be hitting screens worldwide on August 10, Saturday. Though a Saturday release might sound strange, trade analyst Ramesh Bala has tweeted that it is a good slot as the movie will get an extended weekend run due to the Bakrid and Independence day holidays in-between. Vidya Balan, who is making her debut in Tamil, plays the role of Ajith’s wife in the movie. Shraddha Srinath has been cast in the role played by Taapsee in ‘Pink’.
