100 days of Joseph: This Joju starrer achieves a remarkable feat

Joju George starrer ‘Joseph’ celebrates its 100th day of theatrical run today. The Padmakumar directorial was unarguably one of the best films released in Malayalam last year. Upon its release in November, the movie opened to unanimously positive reviews from the critics. Though the audience response in the initial few days was lukewarm, it gradually picked up at the box office courtesy the positive word of mouth in social medias.

The USP of ‘Joseph’ was Joju George’s performance. The actor internalized the various conflicts of the lead character, Joseph, and convincingly portrayed his transition from a happy family man to a low-spirited retired police constable. The movie earned him widespread appreciation. He is already a top contender in the best actor category this year.

‘Joseph’ was supported not just by the common audience, even industry insiders came forward to promote the movie. Celebrities like Jeethu Joseph, Madhav Ramadas, Ranjith Sankar, Midhun Maneul Thomas, Jude Anthany Joseph, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Ajai Vasudev, scriptwriter Harikrishnan, Aju Varghese, Ramesh Pisharody, Sunny Wayne and Anoop Menon heaped praise on Joju and the entire team of ‘Joseph’.

During its run, the movie faced stiff competition from several new releases, which included biggies from Tamil and Hindi, but it still stood strong and occupied a few centres. At the time of piracy, it is very rare for a movie to enjoy a theatrical run of 100 days. So it is indeed a remarkable feat, which Joju and his team can always be proud of.

Last day, a location still featuring Asif, Jinu Joseph, Tovino, Kunchacko Boban, Indrajith, Senthil Krishna and Sharafudheen was found online. It is not always that so many actors come together at a time, so they all must be having a great time working with each other.

Midhun Manuel Thomas confirms that Kottayam Kunjachan is happening!

Last year, during the success celebration event of ‘Aadu 2’, Vijay Babu of Friday Film House announced the sequel to Mammootty’s cult hit film ‘Kottayam Kunjachan’. Midhun Manuel Thomas of ‘Aadu’ fame was signed as the director. However, controversy soon struck as the original makers of ‘Kottayam Kunjachan’ made it clear that they had not sold the sequel rights for anyone and that the announcement was made without informing them.

Ever since that, there has been no updates about the project. After nearly a year, director Midhun Manuel Thomas revealed that the movie has still not been dropped. In the recently held awards ceremony of popular Facebook group Cinema Paradiso Club (CPC), Midhun, while interacting with the group members, informed that the project is on and they are currently working on the script.

‘Kottayam Kunjachan’, released back in 1990, was directed by TS Suresh Babu. Mammootty as Kunjachan, a Kottayam-based ruffian, gave one his finest performances in a comedy role. His styling, the Kottayam dialect and the foul-mouthed dialogues went on to become hugely popular. Kunjachan enjoys an iconic status and is still regarded as one of his most loved characters of all-time.

Needless to say, it will be a tough task for Midhun Maneul Thomas and team to bring back the old Kunjachan on screen. Let’s hope he succeeds in it.
