Rasputin was the latest Malayalam release that released on this Friday in Mollywood. The film was completed almost a year before but was not able to see the silver screen due to various problems. At last all problems were cleared and the film had hit the screen of Kerala this week. The flick has been directed by the debutant named Jinu Daniel and he is the one who also wrote the screenplay of this film. It has been financed by EP Varghese and the flick had a promising star cast including latest sensation Vinay Fort, Aju Varghese and Sreenath Bhasi along with Joy Mathew, Archana Gupta, Vandana Menon, Sunil Sugatha etc.
The film is marketed as a romantic comedy and to say honestly it had failed to meet up to the expectations of the spectators. We don’t know whether anyone had any expectations on this film as it was not at all a much awaited one. But those who watched this on its releasing day itself including our self has a slight expectation of getting a decent fun filled entertainer. But that was spoiled by the poor execution of its theme. The story is not at all fresh but has the chance to fill that old wine in a new bottle. But Jinu Daniel wasted it.
The flick tells about the change of the central character Satheeshan played by Vinay Fort from a very shy person to somewhat a new generation smart guy. Satheesan is very shy specially when it comes to the matter of girls or wooing them. But his cousin Radhenathan played by Sreenath Bhasi who is a sort of womanizer according to him comes out to help him. They also has their common friend gopalan played by Aju Varghese with them who wants to woo ladies from foreign countries and want to become a womanizer. And as a part of a plan Satheesan get into a date with a doctor named smith and then the story kicks starts which shows how satheesan becomes a smart guy fits to this generation.
The flick lacks the excitement which should have been in a romantic comedy. The comedy numbers were not at all good and romantic dialogues and some really unwanted scenes without any significance in the course of the story really made the film a lagging affair at many parts. The music by Roby and DOP by Hari nair was good but the bgm was not at all nice. Actors had nothing to do much as all of them looked like caricatures and only Sreenath Bhasi could able to produce some comic moment with his dialogue delivery style. Screenplay was shabby and direction was without any focus and spoiled in the name of experiment with narration style.
Overall a Rasputin was really a disappointing affair which will not worth your money.
