Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan is scaling new heights in the box office. The movie released on October 7th during the Pooja holidays set the cash registers ringing in the box office. It became the first Malayalam movie to enter the elite 100 crore club.
We had earlier reported that Pulimurugan had crossed the life time collections of blockbuster South Indian movies like SS Rajamouli’s Eega, Ajith’s Vedalam, Suriya’s Singam 2 and Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Kaththi.
Now according to reports from trade sources, Pulimurugan has crossed the lifetime collections of Allu Arjun’s blockbuster movie Sarrainodu. The movie has thereby become the fourth highest grossing South Indian film for the year 2016.

Pulimurugan’s collections now stand at Rs. 129 crore. The movie is now behind another Mohanlal starrer-Telugu blockbuster Janatha Garage (Rs. 135 crore), and Kollywood movies- Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Theri (Rs. 175 crore), and superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali (Rs. 350 crore).
This is a huge achievement for the Malayalam film industry. The massive success of Pulimurugan has inspired many filmmakers from the industry to produce movies on a bigger canvas taking the global market also into account.
