Nellikka, the name itself gives an impetus for viewers to see the film, specially if you are a malayali as the word Nellikka may evoke some sweet as well as bitter memories of your life. Nellikka is one of the last week releases of Mollywood which is the maiden directorial venture of Bijith Bala, who was worked as an editor of more than 30 mollywood films including famous films like Shutter, Chettayees, Apoorva Raagam etc.
It also happened to be the first film of another young man. Yes, the cinematography of the film is done by Kunjunni S Kumar, the son of Famous Cinematographer S Kumar. The main attraction of the film is presence of Atul Kulkarni who is considered as one of the most talented actors in our country and he has been seen in Mollywood after some time. The lyrics for the film is written by Rafeeq Ahammad, Prakash Marara and Santhosh Varma. The music department of the film is handled by Biji Pal. Deepak, Sasi Kumar, Bhagath Manuval, Parveen Sulthana, Mamukkoya, Vishnu Raveendran, Sija Rose, Anjali Aneesh Upasana, RJ Shan etc are in the cast list of the film apart from Atul Kulkarni. The script of the film is written by R Arun and the film is financed by Abdul Rauf Under the banner of A R productions.
The story of the film starts when Balu (played by Deepak) came back to his native place after his studies. He is the son of Hari (Played by Sasi Kumar). Balu’s aim was to rebuild his music band with friends and also to revive his love interest which has long forgotten when he went away for studies. That time his sister Nandana’s (played by Parveen Sulthana) marriage takes lace and his brother in law Satheesh (played by Atul Kulkarni) becomes a great support to Balu to fulfill his dreams. Satheesh arranges bank loan for the revival of Balu’s music band and also helps him to get a job in bank. And while balu was went for a financial deal to help his friend Sandeep (played by Bhagath Manuel), he see something unexpected and he realizes the truth behind what he saw and experienced till that time. From there the film goes through thrilling moments and tells some unexpected truths.
Atul Kulkarni has given a sterling performance as Satheesh and Deepak also done well after his notable performance in Thattathin Marayathu. Bhagath Manuel is also impressed with his different performance. The film has thrilling moments as well as moments which are socially relevant. Just like the title suggests it shows us the sweet as well as bitter aspects in our life and society.
