Can Dangal beat Baahubali 2 and emerge as the highest grossing Indian movie ever?
It’s a great season for Indian cinema. We are witnessing a rare phenomenon where two Indian movie are making all the news overseas. Yes, we are talking about Dangal and Baahubali 2. While Dangal is minting big bucks at the Chinese box, Baahubali 2 is unstoppable in all the centres.
Dangal was released recently in China as Shuai Jiao Baba or Let’s Wrestle Father in Chinese. The Aamir Khan starrer has already grossed around Rs 700 crores from the Chinese box office alone within three weeks of it’s release. The movie has entered the 1500 crore club and became the second Indian movie ever to do so.
Dangal is expected to surpass Baahubali 2’s worldwide gross collections soon as Baahubali’s theatrical run is slowing down in most areas. According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, the worldwide collections of SS Rajamouli’s movie stand at Rs 1,538 crore till Saturday and India collections stand at Rs 973 crore net.
He tweeted,
“#Baahubali2 ‘s 23 Days WW BO:#India:
Nett : Rs 973 Cr
Gross : Rs 1,256 Cr
Overseas:
Gross : Rs 282 Cr
Total: Rs 1,538 Crs”
However, it must be noted that Baahubali 2: The Conclusion has not yet released in China. Eventhough the first part- Baahubali: The Beginning was not successful there, the makers are very optimistic this time around.
Producer Shobhu Yarlagadda has made it clear on several occasions that he intends to release the film with a proper strategy this time in China, Japan, Taiwan, Latin American countries, among others. Both the parts of Baahubali were released screened at the Cannes Film Festival. It is a well planned marketing strategy to popularize the movie even before its release in other countries.
The big question still remains, how long will Dangal go in China? Can it topple the Prabhas starrer to emerge as the highest grossing Indian movie ever. Let’s wait and see.
