Pokkiri Simon-Oru Kaduththa Aaraadhakan: A colorful mass entertainer for Vijay fans!
Pokkiri Simon-Oru Kadutha Aradhakan is probably the most talked about film of Sunny Wayne till date. This Jijo Antony directorial is the story of a group of Vijay fans, so expectations were high particularly among the Tamil star’s fans. From the promos, the movie promised to be a colourful entertainer. Let’s see how it eventually turned out to be.
Pokkiri Simon explores the lives of a set of ardent Vijay fans in Thiruvananthapuram. Simon (Sunny Wayne), Love Today Ganesh (Appani Sarath Kumar) and Hanuman Biju (Jacob Gregory) are part of the Ilayathalapathy Rasigar Mandram. Their only aim in life is to meet Vijay in person and take photos with him. For that they organize promotional and welfare activities in the name of their matinee idol. At one point, circumstances force them to lock horns with a few anti-social elements. How they come out of it forms the rest of the plot.
Writer K Ambadi has clearly been inspired by a lot of Tamil films, particularly Vijay’s, to dish out a mass masala entertainer. The movie is packed with Vijay references, be it his songs or dialogues. In the making side, director Jijo Antony has also tried to showcase it as a typical Tamil masala film with colourful songs, action blocks and a squeezed in social message towards the end.
Sunny Wayne was good in parts while playing the titular role. Vijay is known for his exuberant energy, so while playing the star’s hardcore fan, the character demanded more enthusiasm which was clearly missing in Sunny Wayne. Prayaga Martin’s perfomance as the female lead was forgettable. Sarath Kumar, who made an impressive debut with Angamaly Diaries, does not have much to do here except for a few emotional scenes, which he has done neatly. Dileesh Pothan, Shammi Thilakan, Tito Wilson, Nedumudi Venu, Ashokan, Saiju Kurup and many others are also part of the cast.
Technically, Pokkiri Simon is a mediocre product. The loud background score and colorful frames is reminiscent of a Tamil/Telugu masala film.
Overall, Pokkiri Simon-Oru Kaduththa Aaraadhakan is a decent one time watch for the normal audience.
