Tovino Thomas to play Chacko’s character in Kurup?
‘Kurup’ is one of the biggest Malayalam films in the making currently. Srinath Rajendran is directing the film which is based on the life of Kerala’s infamous criminal, Sukumara Kurup. While Dulquer Salmaan essays the titular role, the cast also includes other big names like Indrajith Sukumaran, Sunny Wayne, Sobhita Dhulipala and Shine Tom Chacko. Latest buzz is that Tovino Thomas is also playing an important role in the film. In a recent interview with us, when asked about the same, the actor hinted that he is indeed a part of the film but quickly added that let’s wait for the official announcement.
Sukumara Kurup is one of the most wanted criminals in the judicial history of Kerala. He is accused of murdering Chacko, a film representative, in the year 1984. Chacko was strangled to death and his body was burnt inside a car. Kurup allegedly committed the crime to fake his own death and claim an insurance amount of Rs 8 lakhs by killing Chacko who bore a resemblance with him. Kurup is supposed to have fled abroad after the incident and has been absconding for over thirty years now. Two of his co-accused, driver Ponnappan and brother-in-law Bhaskar Pillai, were sentenced to life-term imprisonment.
In the film, Dulquer plays Sukumara Kurup’s part and Indrajith essays the investigating officer’s role. Shine Tom Chacko plays the character of Bhasi Pillai. Tovino is said to be playing the all important role of Chacko, but there is still no confirmation on this. The film has its story penned by Jithin K Jose and screenplay written by KS Aravind and Daniel Sayooj Nair.
On the technical front, Nimish Ravi of ‘Luca’ fame is cranking the camera and Sushin Shyam handles the music department. National award winners Vivek Harshan (editor) and Vinesh Banglan (art director) are also part of the crew. ‘Kurup’ is being produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s own production house, Wayfarer Films, and M Stars.
