Malik has flavours of the yesteryear IV Sasi films: Cinematographer Sanu John Varughese
‘Malik’ starring Fahadh Faasil in the titular role is one of the most awaited Malayalam films of the year. ‘Take Off’ director Mahesh Narayanan is helming this film. It is being made on a big canvas with a budget of close to Rs 30 crores. Sanu John Varughese, who was the DOP in ‘Take Off’ has been retained in ‘Malik’ as well. The veteran, who has worked in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films, has pinned high hopes on this one.
In a recent interview, the cinematographer sounded very confident about ‘Malik’. According to him, ‘Malik’ has flavors of the yesteryear IV Sasi, T Damodaran films with regard to its subject matter. Both the aforementioned legends were known for helming big scale political dramas. So it looks ‘Malik’ also belongs to that category. Sanu also added that it is the first time that he has given so much importance in capturing the geography of the area in which the story happens.
‘Malik’ scripted by director Mahesh Narayanan himself is based on a true incident that occurred few years back in Kerala. It is centered around a sensitive coastal area where there was a resistance against this constant threat of displacement of a minority community. The film will be capturing the evolution of the coastal area from the 60s to present age.
Since the narrative goes through various timelines, all the major actors will be appearing in multiple looks in the film. The cast includes Nimisha Sajayan, Dileesh Pothan, Vinay Forrt, Indrans, Sudhi Koppa, Chandhunath, yesteryear actress Jalaja, Maala Parvathy and many others.
Besides directing and scripting, Mahesh Narayanan is also editing the film. Music director Sushin Shyam, production desinger Santhosh Raman and sound designers Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankar are also part of the technical team. Anto Joseph Film Company is producing the film and Aan Mega Media will be releasing it in Kerala.
