Excellent opening for Varane Avashyamund and Ayyappanum Koshiyum

2020 has started off well for Malayalam cinema. The first month of January itself saw two superhits in ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ and ‘Shylock’. Last day, Kerala box office witnessed the release of two highly anticipated films – ‘Varane Avashyamund’ and ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’. Both the films had high expectations among the Malayali movie lovers and as it turns out, both have managed to satisfy the majority audience. While ‘Varane Avashyamund’ is a feel-good entertainer, ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is a realistic mass entertainer.

From the promos itself, it was clear that ‘Varane Avashyamund’ would be a proper entertainer that appeals to all sections of the audience. Similarly, the teaser and trailer of ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ promised a mass flick centred around a conflict between two individuals. Just like the good response from the commoners, critic reviews have also been positive for both the films.

‘Varane Avashyamund’ works majorly because of its dream star cast comprising of Dulquer Salmaan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Suresh Gopi and Shobhana in the lead roles. Debutant director Anoop Sathyan has followed his father Sathyan Anthikad’s footsteps by dishing out a clean entertainer. In the coming days, it sure to attract the family audience in large numbers.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ comes from the trio of Prithviraj Sukumaran, Biju Menon and director Sachy, who had earlier delivered a superhit with ‘Anarkali’. Unlike their last film, this one is set in a completely different terrain with equal importance to both the actors. The story revolves around a conflict between a veteran policeman and a retired solider. The film also has a political subtext and explores issues like class divide and racism. Sachy’s writing and the power-packed performances of both the actors are getting praised unanimously.

Going by the initial response, both ‘Varane Avashyamund’ and ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ are certain to have a long run at the box office.
