Kerala State Film Awards 2016; Vinayakan and Mohanlal in the final round in the best actor category
The Kerala State Film Awards for 2016 will be announced today evening. According to latest reports, Mohanlal and Vinayakan have entered the final list and are the top two contenders in the best actor category.
Mohanlal is considered for his performance in Oppam. He played a blind lift operator who is on the run to protect a girl from serial killer. Oppam’s Jayaraman was Mohanlal’s first full fledged role as a blind person in his three decade long career. He garnered widespread appreciation for his performance in the movie.
Vinayakan is competing for his portrayal of Ganga in Kammattipadam. Though the hero of the movie was Dulquer Salmaan, it was Vinayakan who won all the applause. He delivered an outstanding performance as Ganga. It was complex character with many shades. Kammattipadam, directed by Rajeev Ravi was a coming of age story of a group of gangsters. Vinayakan got into the skin of the character appearing in three different looks. It was one of the best performances by any actor in recent memory.
Both the actors deserve the award for their earnest performances. Last few years, the jury have surprised the public by awarding actors who were not initially in the picture. Let’s hope only deserving performers win the honours.
Director Sundar Das, actress Shanthi Krishna, Priyanandan, Sudevan, PF Mathews, VT Murali, Arun Nambiar, Dr Meena T Pillai and Mahesh Panchu are the jury members.
