Shahid Kapoor in talks for the Hindi remake of Arjun Reddy!
The Telugu flick Arjun Reddy starring Vijay Devarakonda in the titular role is one of the biggest hits in South Indian cinema this year. The movie directed by debutant Sandeep Reddy Vanga became a sensational success and won critical acclaim as well. Talks about Arjun Reddy being remade in other languages have been doing the rounds for sometime now. Tamil star Vikram’s son Dhruv is making his acting debut with Arjun Reddy’s remake which has been titled as Varma. National award winning filmmaker Bala is directing the movie.
In Hindi meanwhile, Ranveer Singh was approached with the remake. The actor had initially shown his interest to do the film but latest reports suggest that Shahid Kapoor will be replacing him. Apparently, Ranveer is hesitant to do another dark emotionally-high character after acting as the menacing Alauddin Khilji in Padmavati.
Arjun Reddy tells the story of a medical surgeon who falls madly in love with his college junior. He becomes alcoholic post break-up and the rest of the story is about how he redeems himself. If reports are to be believed, Sandeep Venga Reddy, who directed the original, will be helming the Hindi version as well.
To play this character, Shahid would require intense preparation, including shedding his body weight to look drugged. Incidentally, the actor played a druggie rockstar in last year’s Udta Punjab. Vijay Deverakonda’s stellar performance as Arjun Reddy was widely appreciated, so Shahid has some big shoes to fill in.
An official announcement of the Hindi remake has not yet been made.
