Soubin Shahir likely to play the lead in Ithihasa 2

It has been exactly three years since the release of Ithihasa, the sleeper hit of 2014. The movie featuring a bunch of youngsters in the team emerged commercially successful taking everyone by surprise. Today, on the third anniversary of the movie’s release, the makers have announced its sequel by unveiling the title poster.

Binu S, who made his debut with Ithihasa, is directing the sequel as well. While the first part had Shine Tom Chacko, Anusree and Balu Varghese in major roles, the makers are yet to reveal the cast of the second part.

Sources within the industry suggest that Soubin Shahir is most likely to play the lead in this upcoming movie. Soubin is currently on a high after the smashing success of his debut directorial Parava. However, an official confirmation about the casting is still awaited.

Ithihasa is a fun filled entertainer that had some interesting fantasy elements. It was the story of body swapping between a conservative young software techie girl and an easy going young petty thief. This happens after they unknowingly wear rings that had some magical powers.

The sequel’s title poster also has these two rings and looks like it will be the continuation of the previous story. Sinoj P Ayyappan will be cranking the camera and Bavan Sreekumar will be in charge of the edits. Gopi Sunder has replaced Deepak Dev to handle the music department. Rajesh Augustine is producing Ithihasa 2 and Ark Media will be presenting it.

Shoot for Dileep-Siddharth team’s big budget movie to resume from October 20

Ever since actor Dileep was released on conditional bail, talks have been doing the rounds about him resuming shoot for his shelved movies. According to latest reports, shoot for his big budget movie Kammarasambhavam will resume from October 20. However, the makers remain tight lipped about the shooting locations to avoid crowd gathering.

Kammarasambhavam marks the directorial debut of noted ad filmmaker Rathish Ambat. Interestingly, he was also one of the producers of Dileep’s Ezhu Sundara Rathrikal. His debut directorial also stars South Indian actor Siddharth in a prominent role.

The movie is scripted by noted actor/scenarist Murali Gopy. The team had already shot for some major portions with Sidharth in Chennai. For this upcoming schedule, which is a month long, they will be shooting combination scenes with Dileep and Siddharth.

Kammarasambhavam is said to be an epic film with magical realism. The movie happens in over three timelines and will feature both Dileep and Sidharth in multiple looks. Namitha Pramod is playing the female lead in the film.

The movie has an ensemble supporting cast which includes National award winner Bobby Simha, Shwetha Menon, Murali Gopy, Vijayaraghavan, Indrans, Manikuttan, Siddique, Vinay Forrt, Sudheer Karamana and Santhosh Keezhattoor among others.

Gokulam Gopalan is funding this big budget movie under the banner of Sree Gokulam Movies.

As informed earlier, the makers of Mammootty’s Streetlights have released the movie’s official first look poster. Mammootty looks ravishing in this poster and looks like an action packed treat is in store for the fans. The movie is being made as a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam.

Renowned cinematographer Shamdat Sainudeen is making his directorial debut with Streetlights. This movie scripted by newcomer Fawaz Muhammed is a crime thriller featuring Mammootty in the role of an investigation officer.

Streetlights doesn’t have a heroine as such, as it is a tale of many characters. Since it’s a bilingual, the movie has different supporting actors for each language. The Malayalam verison stars Joy Mathew, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Neena Kurup, Lijomol Jose, Sohan Seenulal, Indrans, Sudhi Koppa and Harish Kanaran among others. Manobala, Black Pandi, Motta Rajendran and some other noted supporting actors feature in the Tamil version.

Streetlights is bank rolled by Mammootty’s own production house Playhouse Pictures. Yakzan Pereira and Neha Nair are handling the background score and debutant Adarsh Abraham has composed the songs. Director Shamdat’s brother Sadat Sainudeen has cranked the camera.

We had earlier reported about actor Salim Kumar directing a movie with Jayaram in the lead. The movie has now got a very interesting title – Daivame Kaithozham K. Kumarakanam. Apparently, Jayaram’s character is named as K Kumaran. Salim Kumar has also scripted this movie which is a family entertainer with prominence to humour.

Mamta Mohandas plays the female lead, marking her fourth film with Jayaram after sharing screen space with the veteran in Katha Thudarunnu, Njanum Ente Familiyum and Madhuchandralekha. Sreenivasan, Salim Kumar and Nedumudi Venu will also be seen in substantial roles in the movie.

Shoot for this upcoming movie will commence tomorrow (October 11). The movie is being jointly produced by Alwin Antony of Ananya Films and Dr Zachariah Thomas of United Global Media (UGM) Entertainment.

This is Salim Kumar’s third directorial after the critically acclaimed Compartment and Karutha Joothan. The later deals with the Jewish history in Kerala of 2000 years. Salim Kumar’s story for the movie won him a Kerala State Award last year. His upcoming movie with Jayaram will be his first attempt in making a mainstream commercial film as his both his previous films were offbeat ones.

Jayaram, meanwhile is going through a rough patch. His last release Achayans was an average success in the box office even though critics slammed the movie. His next release will be Aakashamittayi, the official remake of Samuthiraknai’s Tamil movie Appa. Mamta Mohandas on the other hand is busy shooting for Carbon directed by ace cinematographer Venu.

Karthik Subbaraj’s Jigarthanda is unarguably one of the best Tamil movies of the past decade. The movje had Bobby Simha and Siddharth in the lead roles. This black-comedy thriller went on to win a couple of National awards including the best supporting actor award for Bobby Simha.

Jigarthanda is now going to Bollywood as actor Ajay Devgn has bagged its Hindi remake rights. The multi-talented Farhan Akhthar and Sanjay Dutt will be reprising the roles played by Siddharth and Bobby Simha respectively. The movie will be directed by Nishikant Kamat, who is known for his films like Mardaani, Mumbai Meri Jaan and Drishyam.

The Hindi version of Jigarthanda will be produced by Ajay Devgn and his collaborator-producer, Abhinav Shuklaa, under their joint banner. Farhan will play a struggling filmmaker while Sanjay Dutt will be seen as a ruthless gangster. The original was set in Madurai but the Hindi version will be based in Maharashtra. Casting for the movie is presently underway and the makers are planning to go on floors by December-January.

Jigarthanda, released in 2014 is the story of an aspiring filmmaker’s attempts to make a realistic gangster flick. For that he decides to study the life of a real gangster, Assault Sethu, played to the T by Bobby Simha. His stunning performance in the movie was widely appreciated and won him several accolades. It will be interesting to see how the veteran Sanjay Dutt plays this challenging character.

We had earlier reported about Dulquer Salmaan signing a Tamil movie with debutant Ra Karthik. The director is quite famous in the short films circuit and has bagged some awards as well. His upcoming movie with Dulquer is a romantic travelogue with commercial elements.

According to latest reports, the movie will have four leading actresses as the female leads. Arjun Reddy fame Shalini Pandey has already signed for the movie. Grapevine also has it that the makers are also trying to rope in Nazriya Nazim, Parvathy and Nivetha Pethuraj to share screen space with Dulquer Salmaan.
Enai Noki Payum Thotta fame Megha Akash is another name that is doing the rounds. An official announcement about the female leads is expected to be made very soon.

As per trustworthy reports, Dulquer would be playing multiple characters in this upcoming movie. Majority of the portions are set in North India and the team is currently scouting for suitable locations. The movie will be shot across the country in locations like Chennai, Coimbatore, Chandigarh and Nainital.

George C Williams, noted for his works in movies like Theri, Kaththi and Raja Rani has been roped in as the DOP. National award winner Sreekar Prasad is in charge of the edits. Music department will be handled by debutant Dheena Dhayalan. This yet-to-be-titled movie is being produced by Kenanya Films.

According to the director, it will be a feel good movie that will appeal to audience of all age groups. The makers are planning to start shooting from December.

Meghana Raj is an established actress who has worked in mostly in Malayalam, Kannada and a few Telugu, Tamil films. The actress is getting married to Kannada actor Chiranjeevi Sarja in December. The two have worked together in the movie Aatagara.

The celebrity couple’s engagement will be held on October 22. The traditional ceremony will be held at Sarja’s residence in the presence of friends and relatives. Both the actors have been denying about their relationship from the last two years. According to certain reports, Chiranjeevi will confirm about their relationship on his birthday, which is on October 17.

Meghana Raj has acted in several Malayalam movies. Some of her notable performances were in films like Beautiful, Namukku Parkkan, Mullamottum Munthiricharum, Banking Hours 10 to 4, Maad Dad, Dolphins, Madirasi, Red Wine and Memories.

National award winner Bala to introduce Vikram’s son Dhruv with the remake of Arjun Reddy!

We had recently reported about Kollywood star Vikram’s son Dhruv making his entry to the industry. He will be playing the lead in the Tamil remake of superhit Telugu movie Arjun Reddy. Mollywood’s leading production house E4 Entertainment had bagged the remake rights of Arjun Reddy. The director’s name was kept under the wraps before the makers decided to reveal it last day.

Acclaimed filmmaker Bala will be directing the movie in Tamil. It must be noted that Bala was the one who gave Vikram his big break with the National award winning Sethu. It will be very interesting to see how Bala will be introducing Dhruv to the industry. The director is renowned for his intense style of filmmaking, with most of his films having a dark and disturbing nature. With Arjun Reddy’s remake, Bala is expected to showcase an unseen side of his.

Bala has directed Vikram in Sethu and Pithamagan, the latter won the star a National award for best actor.
Some of the director’s other noted films include Naan Kadavul, Nandha, Avan Ivan, Paradesi etc.

Arjun Reddy, released earlier this year emerged as a sensational success. The movie directed by debutant Sandeep Reddy Vanga was widely acclaimed by the critics as well as the commoners. Bollywood star Ranveer Singh has been approached for the Hindi remake while Yash is said to be playing the lead in the Kannada version.

Arjun Reddy starring Vijay Deverakonda in the titular role tells the story of a medical surgeon who falls madly in love with his college junior. Arjun becomes alcoholic post break-up and the rest of the story is about how he redeems himself.

Let’s wait and watch how Bala presents Dhruv and how the latter essays this challenging role.
